Angela, While added lemon juice or citric acid is required for most water bath and some pressure canning tomato recipes, this recipe doesn’t require additional acid. The recipe is from The All New Ball Book of Canning and Preserving and is tested safe as written. You can confidently proceed as written.

Can you double check the recipe and clarify that additional acid like citrus acid or lemon juice doesn’t need to be added. Most canning recipes call for dried herb,so I was excited to see fresh basil in this recipe, but now I’m worried. Please reach out to me to verify. Thank you kindly!
