Mel Kiper Jr. shares what sets Will Levis apart from Bryce Young
Mel Kiper Jr. has sorted out the quarterbacks in this year’s NFL Draft class, and addressed the debate between Bryce Young of Alabama and Will Levis of Kentucky.
Simply put, from an NFL perspective, Kiper said on ESPN’s “First Take” that it comes down to physical traits like Young weighing less than 200 pounds. Will Levis, for example, was listed at 6-3 and 232 pounds last season at Kentucky.
“The one thing that bothers me and it bothers everybody I talk to is you don’t know,” Kiper said. “There’s always outliers, but there’s never been, in the history of the draft, going back 45 years for me, a quarterback 5-10 to 5-11 about 185 to 190 (pounds) going this high in the draft and expecting him to be a franchise quarterback. I hope Bryce Young will be. He doesn’t have the howitzer for an arm, he doesn’t have the 4.5 speed, and he’s undersized. I don’t care about the height, I care about the weight. Holding up and withstanding punishment, staying healthy and durable and being able to finish seasons for Bryce Young will be the issue. I still have him going to the Colts at 4, it’s not like I have him in the fourth round. But in terms of the No. 1 quarterback for me, the guy that looks the part and played like a big-timer when he got some help, was Will Levis from Kentucky.”
Chris “Mad Dog” Russo then raised the point of Levis being able to lead his team down the field on a key drive late in the game under pressure.
OVERRATED
He shoulda been a Vol then.

Even if he played for us I still would’ve said the same thing.
Kansas State disagrees with you.
Well how come?
Five TD passes against the strength of their team, the secondary.
Look at volunteer fan with his chest poked out like they did something special this year with phil fulmer and Jeremy Pruitts love child as coach… LOUD FART NOISE
Dumb
Hey Mel, Ryan Leaf says hello from prison. Remember your pick for him? That is all that needs to be said.
I think he’s probably right about Young. Little guy is going to get hurt. But he could be way off on Levis. I don’t get the Levis hype.
Kyler Murray did not get hurt until year 3 in the NFL. Andrew Locke stayed hurt all the time. Young will be just fine if he has a halfway decent o-line like any other QB.
Said that about Devonta Smith too. Different position yeah, but a tackle is a tackle. I haven’t seen anyone blow up Young that I remember. If someone did, he obviously took the shot well.
Yeah I remember how everyone told Kyler Murray to play receiver too. It’s no debate Bryce is hands down the best qb. Most people can’t see it because of their fandom. 1. Young 2. Stroud 3. Bennet 4. Will Levis maybe. That’s how I’d rate QBs. But it never fails this guy pulls some QB out of no where, no one knows his name, and puts them in the top 10 picks. Mel kiper is like that Turd that won’t flush. He keeps popping back up and won’t simply go away.
Has anything this dude said over the years ever been true?
That is an easy one. What sets them apart is that one lost 4 games and won 24, the other lost 9 and won 17. One won the Heisman; the other threw 46 TDs and 25 INTs. One won an SEC championship, and 2 division titles, and played for a NC, the other didn’t even win a division title.
