Todd Monken, Georgia coordinator, interviews with NFL team for OC job

Georgia offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Todd Monken, who has overseen the Bulldogs’ offense for the past 3 seasons, reportedly interviewed with the Baltimore Ravens for their open OC position.

According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, Monken is also slated to meet with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week. He is said to have his eye on a return to the NFL after 2 National Championship seasons at Georgia.

Monekn joined the Bulldogs in 2020 after a stint in the NFL with the Buccaneers and Cleveland Browns.

Prior to this, Monken took over a 0-12 Southern Miss team and had them sitting at 9-5 just 3 seasons later, dropping the Heart of Dallas Bowl to Washington.

  • On behalf of the sec east please Todd take that nfl job!

All jokes aside monken has proved what a great offensive mind he is .

    • Funny when asked. What college job Would he like the most at this point. Joe Brady said that Georgia job is interesting!!!!

      Negan

      • Hey there you little p u s s y a s s b I t c h boy! NEGAN F U C K S CHILDREN. K I L L ALL P E D O P H I L E S.

      • Back to back Georgia buffoon …

Isn’t it interesting that Negan’s Georgia’s QB just got arrested and put in the slammer…

        What an outstanding knucklehead…

        Great example for young kids…

        Negan… the buffoon.

        lol!

  • Prolly gonna lose the best Asst Coach in CFB.

#1- Josh Brooks, put a blank check in front of Monken!
#2- If Monken leaves, Kirby best be smarter than promoting Bobo or McClendon, both have failed as OCs. McClendo is a good WR coach bit that is is ceiling. We do not want to go back to the Bobo yrs from where we are now offensively.

    • This was bound to happen eventually if the line "Monken has been eyeing a potential NFL return" is true.

    • The Bobo years were fine at Georgia. And though he failed as a HBC he was fine as OC at his stops, including South Carolina and Auburn. Lack of talent at South Carolina and ineptitude at head coach/meddling boosters on the planes.

They wouldn't be changing their philosophy if Monken left and with the talent Bobo will do fine.

Not saying that's who I want, but I wouldn't be mad. Georgia immediately went from 8th to 85th in ppg after he left.

      • No no no & more no.
Bobo was so predictable it was pathetic
        Run, run, 3rd down pass.
Absolutely not acceptable when you have the likes of Bowers

        • Bobo didn’t have the likes of Bowers. Mike did a great job with what he had, not to mention how tight to the vest Richt preferred to coach. Bob has been under the tutelage of Monken for a while now, he’s gonna make a great OC when Monken leaves imho

        • Bobo's most predictable aspect was running a screen on third and long.

No. I am fully aware of how Bobo was ............almost 10 years ago. Outside of AJ Green name THE guy in Bobo's offense that was world class on the outside? He didn't have a Bowers.

And he's been under Monken now. Monken was predictable in his tenure at stops too. Comparing who Bobo was 10 years ago vs now is foolhardy at best.

    • Monken is a hired gun brought in to get UGA over the hump. He has no more worlds to conquer in CFB and its clear he prefers the NFL. I expect he'll leave. Not especially thrilled at a 2nd tour with Bobo, however.

  • Said it earlier, ain't no way a public university could out money the NFL.
If an NFL team wants Monken they're gonna get him.
Wish he wouldn't go to the ratbirds but if he does oh well.

    • The average NFL OC salary is right at $1M for 2022. If you throw the Pats out of the equation, the very highest-paid NFL OCs are making in the general zip code of what Todd makes now (north of $2M).

Maybe Todd does want to return to the NFL, or maybe he’s leveraging another big raise from UGA. Time will tell, but it would not surprise me to see Josh and Kirby reward him with $3M-plus to keep him. Most NFL teams won’t go there, and the proof is in what they’re currently paying.

UGA is one of a handful of CFB teams that can go dollar-for-dollar with most NFL franchises for staff. Kirby already makes WAY more than the average NFL head coach ($11M vs $7M). League franchises have more income overall, yes - but they also have that monster balance sheet line item that colleges don’t: player payroll.

      • The Ravens old OC was making 3 mil a year. Id expect something similar to start for Todd.

But I think to many people points, money isnt what gets him there. Its to coach at the highest level, both Buc(Todd has prev connections with) or Ravens have what would garner interest... A chance at the playoffs then SB.

Either way I wouldnt worry to much since bullpups will have a new qb, which new OC can develop and even if Todd leaves this year yall have Bowers which will make new OCs life alil easier with transition.

Whatever make the bullpups better Im all for... better the competition, the more fun next season will be.

Remember bullpups; Kirby is 1-4 against the GOAT.

    • And I told you then, you don't know what the f--k you're talking about.

Georgia can and would pay Monken more than what he would make in the NFL.

NFL OCs aren't as high paid as you seem to think they are, and Georgia's football budget far outstrips what just about any team in CFB has, and can more than afford to pay Monken more than what he would make in the NFL.

If Monken leaves for the NFL, money will have nothing to do with it, idiot.

  • He's p=oven that he is an elite OC with elite athletes which has set him up to get paid in the NFL. The only thing that he could do to get paid more is a college coaching job and I'm not sure that a head coaching job in the NCAA would pay more than an NFL OC. He took Southern Miss to 9-5 without the elite athletes he had at UGA.

  • He makes $2m which is more than most NFL OCs. His job security is going to be a lot worse. See Joe Brady.

    • I really don’t understand the allure of the NFL for some coaches. Monken must have his reasons but I wouldn’t hitch my wagon to either Reich or Bowles.

      • The allure is no recruiting required...that leaves a lot more free time than at a top level college program

        • Yep. Recruiting takes a lot of time and relentless effort. NFL doesn’t have deal with that.

  • Saban will be the first to tell you that with success, the assistant coaching carousel will be fast and furious. How Kirby reloads and if he can sustain the success will be the real indicator of how great he is. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great coach and has done well, but sustaining it now will be difficult with staff moves becoming a regular thing.

  • There are a few highly paid OC’s, $5-6m I believe. Looked it up last time a monken to nfl article came up. Most are in the $1-2M range though. Any nfl team could pay big if they want him bad enough. but I wouldn’t think money is not the biggest draw. He should have plenty by now. He’s only mid 50’s so the college grind shouldn’t be an issue just yet either. Maybe he wants a couple super bowl rings to add to his ncaa rings. Also success as an OC easily leads to a HC job in the nfl.

  • If Monken does go to the NFL, I'm not convinced that Bobo wouldn't be a good option. He had some good offenses under Richt (with less talent).

How much has Bobo picked up since his GA OC days? How's his health?

I hope Monken stays, but UGA has made Monken the highest paid OC in CFB. With the top salary as well as the elite talent, I'm sure UGA can have their pick out of several elite candidates.

    • Just saw this but all of this. I just made this point above. Comparing him to how he was nearly 10 years ago isn't a good place to start and acting like his offenses didn't put points on the board is also wild.

I'd assume Bobo's knowledge has grown. But hey we can always hire Shotty since it's no no no at Bobo
