Rara Thomas arrest details emerge after Georgia receiver was charged with a felony

Rara Thomas, an incoming transfer wide receiver to Georgia from Mississippi State, was arrested early Monday by university police on 2 charges, including a felony, according to Clarke County Jail arrest records. Now details have emerged from the police, according to the Athens Banner-Herald.

Thomas was charged with felony false imprisonment and misdemeanor battery family violence 1st offense, according to the online booking report.

Thomas was accused of standing in front of a fourth floor East Campus Village dorm room door, blocking the exit and telling a female who he argued with that she could not leave, according to a police incident report obtained Tuesday. Thomas allegedly bruised the woman’s bicep and causing abrasions to her shins. The woman told police she and Thomas lived together in Mississippi and in his native Alabama and were planning to live together in an Athens apartment.

The incident occurred at 11:30 p.m. Sunday at McWhorter Hall. Thomas was arrested at 3 a.m. Monday by University of Georgia police and booked into the Clarke County Jail at 4:05 a.m.

Thomas, 20, was released on $1,850 in bonds early Monday afternoon. He gave police a differing account of what happened than she did.

“Y’all know I’m not that type of person,” Thomas posted Monday in a message on his personal Facebook page. “I know better than that my momma taught me well! I’ll never EVER put my hands on a female !! Gots to get away from social media.”

A 17-year old woman told police she got into a verbal argument with Thomas, who she described as her boyfriend who was upset that she was following an unidentified male on Instagram, according to the report. She left the dorm after the argument and went to the gym, but they continued to argue via text, the report said. When she went back to the dorm, they continued arguing.

  • Really? An Instagram follow? Bad look regardless but there is a high chance he is guilty and done with football. Lying on Facebook isn’t a good look either.

    • It's always the man's fault...... It can't be that she bruised herself up by attacking, hitting and kicking him???? She broke a nail scratching him!!!! Her wrist got bruised because he was trying to control the crazy B!!!!!!!

BOTH CHARGES WERE " FIRST OFFENSE!!! " Meaning that ain't who this guy is. It wouldn't surprise me to find out the female is from Alabama or knows Saban or maybe has ties to Alabama football, fans or boosters!!!!! IT REALLY WOULDN'T!!!!!!!!

PS. With or without him. Georgia will be lethal in 2023!!!!!!!!! And hungry for A 3PEAT THAT I PREDICT GEORGIA GETS, GOD WILLING!!!!!!!!!!

      Negan

      • You know all about felonies don't you little negan? Because you're a f u c k i n g child mo le s t i n g piece of s h i t. When I find you I'll rid the world of you. I'm getting closer to, shouldn't be too much longer and everyone on here will thank me! I'm coming for you you f u c k i n g P e d o p h i l .

    • Felony for standing in front of a door saying your not leaving during a heated argument! How is that a felony?????????

      PS. Total complete BS!!!!!!!!

      Negan

      • It's the law....prevent someone from freely moving of their own volition and it is either false imprisonment or kidnapping, both of which are felonies

        • They can charge him with it for sure, depending if he has priors or if he doesn’t, that will get knocked down with a bad attorney. What I would worry about is someone running with she is 17, playing with matches and gasoline there these days.

      • Negan…you are a pathetic doofus.
Ever heard of being the bigger man.
He could have walked away from her instead he is blocking her from leaving.
Please stop giving Dawgs fans a bad look you numbskull

  • I am wondering if their living arrangements aren't an issue if she is 17 and they supposedly had been living together prior in Mississippi and Alabama. Seems she might have been, if isn't still, underage.

  • I am no lawyer but reading that... I am not sure he is guilty.
Sounds like they really just took her word over his.
I understand a man should never lay hands on a woman but this stinks of misjudgment.
She did not mention that he supposedly hit her until she overheard him explaining that she laid hands on him first?

    • These he said/she said cases are hard on the police. If there is ANY sign on anyone, then there MUST be an arrest. It could be a bruise they received on their own. This does not mean he is guilty; it means that according to the law, an arrest must be made, and the police have no discretion in the matter.

      • He had bruises as well. What is above is not the entirety of what the police released. His injuries were not consistent with his story, so she was more believable.

  • All I know is that he gots to get away from social media and gots to gets into a bachelor level English class.

    • That is pure comedy and truth spoken all in one.
Please leave the Ebonics mumbo jumbo at the high school level and learn to speak and type proper English.
I miss Nolan Smith and some others already

  • If she is his baby’s momma and/or had hopes of marrying an NFL player making millions

she just blew it (no pun intended)

  • This could get interesting. If she lived with him in Mississippi and his "native Alabama" (assuming that is before he enrolled at MSU) that would mean she was 14 or 15 when the relationship began. I don't know the laws in those states or his exact age. But that's really young.
