New Kentucky pledge’s commitment ceremony featured 2 friends with mullets, ‘U-K’ painted on their chests

New Kentucky commit Hayes Johnson certainly knows how to introduce himself to the Wildcat faithful.

Shortly after he announced his commitment, 2 of his friends took their shirts off to reveal “U-K” in blue paint on their chests. The friends, donning mullets, then sprinted back and forth on the stage — eventually causing the high school’s backdrop to fall on Johnson’s family.

Here’s video of the scene:

Here’s another photo from the ceremony:

Johnson is Kentucky’s 1st commit in the class of 2024. Johnson is a native of Campbellsville, Kentucky. He attends Taylor County High School and listed at 6-foot-5, 295 pounds.

He chose the Wildcats over finalists Louisville, Tennessee, Baylor and Michigan State. During his commitment, he acknowledged his personal tie to the Wildcats.

“For me this whole decision was based on how I was raised, I think for a boy growing up in Kentucky, playing sports, he’s got 2 dreams,” Johnson said. “He either wants to be a Louisville Cardinal or Kentucky Wildcat and I wear Kentucky Blue.”

He’s the No. 1 overall player from the state of Kentucky, per 247Sports Composite rankings. Nationally, he’s ranked as the No. 555 player and the No. 45 offensive tackle.

Here are some highlights from Johnson’s junior season:

  • Caveat- no kid dreams of playing at UofLoserville unless he's from Louisville. Until I moved here for work, I never actually knew or had a conversation with a UofL fan. The city itself is fine as long as you don't get lost in the west end or find yourself around Dixie Highway, but this is literally the only place in the state doesn't lean overwhelmingly for the Wildcats. But I do appreciate the enthusiasm in the video lol...
