Joe Burrow is ‘the best QB in the NFL’ says ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky

Joe Burrow is on another hot streak, guiding the Cincinnati Bengals to a pair of wins to begin the NFL Playoffs. Now, the Bengals are heading back to Arrowhead Stadium for a second straight AFC Championship Game after winning there during the 2021 season.

With Burrow on the doorstep of another Super Bowl appearance, ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky has seen enough to make his call for the best quarterback in the NFL. During Monday’s “Get Up” broadcast, Orlovsky explained why Burrow is his choice for best QB in the NFL ahead of others like Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson.

“Joe Burrow’s the best QB in the NFL. QB. Now, Chiefs fans, Patrick (Mahomes) is the best player. Patrick’s the most talented QB to ever step foot on an NFL field. But when it comes to quarterbacking and when it comes to understanding defenses and play calls… Joe’s the best,” Orlovsky claimed. “He’s the best going right now when it comes to all things we can write down about what it takes to play QB at a high level, he does it all exceptionally well.”

For teams looking for their QB of the future in the draft, Orlovsky made the case Burrow is the model teams should be looking for in player evaluations:

“He’s the guy that is the model for what all QBs should be in the future. Patrick’s an outlier, stop chasing Patrick Mahomes if you’re an NFL team, you’re not gonna find him… Joe does all the things that you sit there and go: ‘Oh I know how he does that,’ but he’s the only one that does it.”

In a snowy road environment, Burrow completed 23-of-36 passes for 242 yards and 2 touchdowns and added 31 rushing yards in Cincinnati’s dominant 27-10 win over the Buffalo Bills. We’ll see if he’s able to replicate in Kansas City with a chance to advance to another Super Bowl.

    • Legit argument but Burrow and Bengals are 2-0 against Mahomes and Chiefs.
If Mahomes on one leg can beat them this week we can revisit.

      • Burrow has beaten Mahomes three times in the last 12 months. He is three and oh he beat them two weeks before the end of the season last year. Then he beat them in the AFC championship game and then he beat them again towards the end of this year. If pearl wins it’ll be four times in 13 months he will it be Mahomes.

    • Mahomes is 0 and three against burrow in the last 12 months could possibly be 0-4 in 13 months so I don’t quite know how you can say Mahomes is better when he still has yet to beat Joe Burrow.

      • That's great, but Mahomes had a 105.2 ESPN passer rating for the 2022 regular season. He was second to Tua. Burrow's passer rating was 100.8. The Bengals won 12 games out of 16, while KC won 14 out of 17. Head -to-head is an important statistics, but in a 17 games regular season it's not one of the top two statistics.

  • Logged in just to point out Orlovsky also said Trevor Lawerence was a better quarterback than Joe Burrow, after Burrow won the Heisman and before the National Championship. Not saying that I disagree with him here, but anything coming from Dan Orlovsky should be taken with a grain of salt.
