Zamari Walton, former Georgia Tech cornerback, announces SEC commitment

Zamari Walton was a key defensive back for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets last year. He got a first-hand look at Ole Miss, too, as his team lost 42-0 to the Rebels in Atlanta back in September.

Well, if you can’t beat them, join them. That’s the old saying, anyway.

Recently, Walton took to Twitter to announce that he was transferring from Georgia Tech to Ole Miss for the 2023 season:

Walton had 36 tackles for the Yellow Jackets last year, tied for the 8th-most tackles on the team. He also had 1 interception and 6 pass breakups.

Ole Miss needs to revamp its secondary for 2023, so we’ll see what sort of role Walton carves out for himself with Lane Kiffin and the Rebels this coming fall.

  • Kiffen doesn't have a problem using the portal. Is Ole Miss's collective paying some of these athletes like Spencer Sanders or Walker Howard. Seems like they are getting alot of elite athletes out of the transfer portal.

    • From what I have heard, the collective is pretty big so most of the kids are getting paid.
I know in the instance of Howard, he took less to come to Ole Miss because he felt it was a right fit.
With this kid from GT I would assume you don't have to pay that much to get a kid out of GT.
