Former South Carolina DB Chris Lammons has been waived by the Kansas City Chiefs as the club looks to set its 53-man roster for the AFC Championship game against the Cincinnati Bengals. It’s a somewhat surprising move as Lammons had carved out an important special teams role.
Lammons leads the Chiefs in special teams snaps with 322 on the year, recording 7 tackles over 16 regular-season games. He logged 23 special teams snaps in Kansas City’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, making 1 tackle.
Injured players Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jody Fortson have returned to practice. If either one is activated, he could take Lammons’ active roster spot.
It’s not immediately clear what’s next for Lammons. If he were to remain with the Chiefs on the practice squad, Lammons could potentially be elevated for Sunday’s game, depending on the team’s other roster moves.
Lammons has been in the NFL since 2019, playing in 42 regular-season games with Miami and Kansas City.
