Salary ranks 9th despite a 15-11 record? That’s an odd assessment. His raise is fair (if not generous) for that record.
This recognition happens every year despite their record. It’s usually a recruiting weekend where all of the players and recruits go. Clowney was at the game as a recruit when they did this, and the whole stadium chanted, “We want Clowney.” They also introduce the early enrollees. So it serves a purpose as a recruiting tool and letting the players have fun more so than celebrating accomplishments.
I don’t think a 7 point loss to a ranked team is an indicator of next season. In the past two games, Nate Adkins role grew. He helped the run game and the passing game. When he got hurt, things changed. We had two TE’s transfer and one who retired from football. So we were left with no one. The already limited formations became more limited. We still lost, but I would not say this was a doom and gloom finish when we were projected to have 5 wins.
You are a clown. Google “Kirby Smart Officiating”. How can you be so unaware of Kirby’s past complaints on officiating. He reviewed and turned in 6 plays when y’all lost to Auburn 40-17 in 2017. He only found 6 bad calls and thought that would make up the 23 points. Get a life, bozo.
Oh I’m sure you’ve never complained about officiating. What about the 2014 USC-UGA first down call at the end of the game?
Great point. Kind of sad but understandable. The game is changing quickly!
People assume their QB situation is set due to recruits’ star rankings. You have no idea how a kid is going to do as a full time starter until he gets his shot.
Google him. It looks like he’s a catholic school teacher who does freelance sports writing on NY professional teams. Everyone in this chat room should start doing horrendous freelance work and find out how much SDS pays for inaccurate information that could be researched in 5 minutes.
Grammer poleece. Next your going to cal out ideeots who can’t spel.
College football is the last sport I still watch. I’m getting close to not wanting to follow it either though. It’s too hard to keep up with all the changes.
TCU has the best chance to lose. They were down 18 to Kansas State at home before coming back. Kansas State should benefit from a neutral site just as USC will against Utah. It’s hard to beat the same team twice!
Tajh Boyd didn’t take the money when he was projected as a first rounder. Ended up being a sixth rounder despite having a great year. Didn’t last long in the league. If Richardson can get the money, he should take it. But I don’t think he’ll pan out. I think he could become a good college quarterback and one that is fun to watch. It would be sad if he didn’t pan out in the NFL and we forgot his name in 5 years.
Most Florida fans I know can’t believe Richardson’s ranking on the NFL Draft Big Boards. I am quite perplexed how highly rated him and Levis are and shocked how low Hooker is. What are they looking at? Body size? Mechanics? Certainly not film. I feel as if there are many competent quarterbacks out there, and he is not one yet. Why would someone waste an early pick on a project? He seems like a prospect that would be taken later if he can’t play year 1 and is a risk who may not pan out.
Agreed. I know fans of other teams sometimes only watch a couple of our games (if that), so their opinions are based on the last 2 games. But we were running completely different routes and targeting players who had not been targeted all season (Adkins, Wells had 35% of his season’s receiving yards) the past two games. And it’s hard to think Rattler went from saying, “I don’t feel like we had a good idea of knowing what to do” to playing his mind off in a few weeks with the same man calling plays. Whether Kitchens created the game plan, demanded certain players be more heavily incorporated, added receiving routes, or called the plays; there is NO WAY the light bulb just came on for Satterfield at the end of the season. And if so, I think I’m more mad than happy. Haha
There’s no money left after Muschamp’s buyout! But yes—he deserves a raise. He’s the lowest paid coach in the conference (I believe Vanderbilt’s coaching salaries are private).
I think it’s important to look at the preseason projected finish of these teams. UT was projected to be third in the East, USC 5th, and LSU fifth in the West. UGA was predicted to win the East. There is an argument for all, but I think Kelly should win it. The A&M loss may hurt his chances, but he overcame a ton of obstacles to win the division.
Don’t listen to the clowns in the message boards. Great season for the Vols. And most of the negativity is because people think we suck and that it was a bad loss. But a night road game mixed with not being able to game plan for Rattler happening to find his groove that night is nothing to be ashamed of. The Vols are on the right track.
There’s an argument for 2 and 3 and then where to put SC and the MS schools. Mississippi State and SC should be 4 and 5–hard to place those two. But Ole Miss should certainly be behind SC. I don’t know which of their wins I would label as impressive.
Our losses may be a little worse than yours. But what are y’all’s most impressive two wins? At Ole Miss and Arkansas? I’ll take our last two wins over those.
Never had an issue with LSU til this year. These message boards have been littered with the “The Tennessee game was half a season ago—this is a new team” garbage. Y’all are not the second best team in the SEC. And a loss at home to us is no more embarrassing than losing at A&M. Most of the stadiums in the SEC hood 80,000+. That’s what makes this league special and difficult to play in.
Am I wrong, or should the writer’s 2nd paragraph be rewritten? Sounds like he prewrote this as if we lost.
I enjoyed the comment and agree wholeheartedly. And this site does suck. Another article today just said we’re finishing our season at Missouri (a team we’ve already played). How do these clowns not have each SEC school’s end of season rivalry game memorized. Most of the commenters who work full time could put together better articles in their free time.
I don’t think it’s the biggest win in program history, but it is the most points an unranked team has ever scored against an AP Top 5 team. It’s also the most points UT has ever allowed in a SEC game. So I think the margin of victory and the 47.5 point swing from the line make it one of the most unpredictable outcomes in SEC history. I won’t say it’s one of the biggest upsets, as I save that for smaller teams beating Power 5 teams.
If the ceiling is playing in Atlanta every 4 years, wouldn’t a win there raise the ceiling? ?
We do pretty well in-state. We get the top player about 40-50% of the time. Clemson, Alabama, and Georgia are the schools who have also gotten the top player in the past 10 years. If that’s supposed to be a shot, y’all didn’t land a top 10 in-state TN player last year. Only one the previous year. And I remember once upon a time Harrison Smith leaving y’all’s backyard to go to Notre Dame. It happens to everybody.
I think I’m having a stroke. Half of that statement didn’t delete or autocorrected.
