Joe Milton, Tennessee QB, drains halfcourt shot on College GameDay

Joe Milton can do just about everything, it seems.

Tennessee’s 2023 quarterback made an appearance on College GameDay Saturday afternoon. The show is on-site at Thompson-Boling Arena for Tennessee basketball’s top 10 showdown against No. 10 Texas later Saturday afternoon.

On the original segment, Milton was asked by the crew to throw the basketball as far as he could over the backboard. He let it go and it disappeared into the stands in an instant. For Milton, throwing orange things a long distance is nothing out of the ordinary.

When the cameras cut, Milton drained a halfcourt shot in front of the Rocky Top crowd.

The form could use some work, but it’s the end result that matters.

Tennessee football is in good hands with Milton next season, but he’s got some huge shoes to fill. He showed that he has what it takes to compete at a high level in the Orange Bowl, leading Tennessee to a 31-14 victory over No. 7 Clemson with 251 yards, 3 touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Milton might need to try out for Tony Vitello’s top 5 baseball squad sometime soon.

    • Luck. Ask him to do it two times in a row or the next five times in a row. I made a half court shot in high school. Luck.

      • Oh man…your thought process. “I gotta minimize and down play it”. Yea, I want to see you do that. “In high school”. You peaked then perhaps. He made a good shot. That’s that.

  • He has to prove it for a few games in a row, including a big game or two but he has clearly improved from early 22. I feel pretty confident in him. We’ll see. If the D can take a step he won’t have to be hooker good.

    • I understand the enthusiasm from Vol fans concerning Milton. He played well vs. Clemson(an ACC team that is not what it once was a few years ago, especially in the secondary). He must improve on connecting withe Heup's famous long ball passes to be a successful Vol QB; because Nico will not be ready to run this offense in the first 4-5 games. If Milton can improve on that long-ball accuracy he'll be fine.
Vs. Clemson he eased off on the velocity and threw some balls short to compensate. In the SEC that will spell trouble.

      • I think he's got the long ball down pretty well and the accuracy seems there. But the short and mid range technical throws where your leading WR's? He's hit a couple of those the last few games and one for a score. This is also something Nico can do coming into to TN. I think they will both push each other in the technical passing area. The velocity imo now is the biggest issue, next short and mid range technical throws. But having taller targets this upcoming season I think will help.

  • I have to admit when Joe came here and in the 21 season after seeing the issues, I thought there was little chance for a significant improvement. Over the last few games, maybe I underestimated him or the coaching staff's abilities. It's probably a bit of both.

  • College Gameday came to Knoxville for every major sport this year and we thought ESPN hated us. Vols won big bama lost great day!!
