Clint Stoerner, former Arkansas QB, weighs in on Bobby Petrino to Texas A&M

Jimbo Fisher’s hire of Bobby Petrino as offensive coordinator has been met with a great deal of criticism.

Of course, everything Fisher does at this point generates some level of criticism, which isn’t a huge surprise given how poorly his team performed this season.

There are some, however, who believe this is a great move for Texas A&M, including former Arkansas and NFL quarterback Clint Stoerner.

The former Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins signal caller believes Petrino is a great hire for the Aggies.

He cited 3 reasons why on Twitter:

  1. “(One) of the best offensive minds in CFB anyway you slice it”
  2. “Veteran play caller that Jimbo will not intimidate or influence”
  3. “A figurehead that will hold players on his side of the ball accountable on the field”

Added Stoerner: “The #12thManshould be stoked!!!”

Texas A&M, of course is coming off a disastrous 5-7 season.

The Aggies began the 2022 campaign ranked 6th in the AP poll but struggled throughout the year, most notably on the offensive side of the ball.

Whether or not Petrino is the answer to those woes remains to be seen. But he does have a proven track record of delivering dynamic offensive attacks at the college level.

  • "“(One) of the best offensive minds in CFB anyway you slice it”"

Booby's last great offense was in 2017.

    • You still seem very confused by this. He coached the mighty Missouri State team during that time, and you're gauging him on not being able to turn them into a top ranked offense? Plenty to use against Petrino, but knocking his offensive mind is just ridiculous. Again, you really should sit this one out Ronnie... it's out of your depth.

      • "He coached the mighty Missouri State team during that time'

How stupid are you? Booby was HC at Louisville from 2014-18.

        • You said since 2017.... when he was at Louisville. He then left in 2018 to coach Missouri State in 2020 so you're essentially crying that he wasn't able to turn Missouri State into a top ranked offense in 2 years. Like I said, you're out of your depth here.

      • "He coached the mighty Missouri State team during that time'

HE DIDN'T START COACHING THERE UNTIL 2020 YOU MORON.

        • His last year at Lousiville was 2018... What are you struggling to grasp here?

You say "He hAsN'T hAd A tOP OffEnSe siNcE 2017" like that's a shot. That was his second to last Division 1 football season as a head coach.....

You call everyone stupid, but are you ok? Can you not comprehend this?

        • It's interesting that Ronnie responds on the other thread that he's still confused about, but now chooses to ignore the one now that he realizes his mistake. Or maybe I'm giving him too much credit, maybe he's just a bigger idiot than I even imagined.

        • It is honestly baffling. He sits in his mother's basement and attacks others intelligence yet fails to grasp a very simple timeline. Sad!

  • Two too many massive egos. Hey, what could possibly go wrong. If they can coexist, then this is definitely an improvement for TA&M. We’ll see.

    • Yes bobby Petrino does have some baggage but wherever he's coached his offenses have produced points. "If" Jimbo will give him complete control of the offense it's a good move for A & M. It sounds a lot like when Gus at Auburn gave up play-calling duties then took it back. We'll see.

  • Not sure this is any better or worse than Auburn hiring Freeze. Freeze had several NCAA violations on top of his dilly-dally with the ladies and his "appointments".

    • Freeze apologized for what he did. Booby lied about having an affair, faked a motorcycle accident and never apologized.

      • Yea, Freeze apologized after misapproriating boosters money (crime) to purchase h00kers in Tampa (crime). Petrino had an affair (not a crime) and left his job at the Falcons (not a crime albeit cowardly).

        Am I missing the disconnect?

      • Bobby apologized. Both are known to have cheated on their wives. Bobby with one and Freeze with multiple paid hookers. I am interested to see the dynamics at atm being a hog fan, but Freeze takes the cake as the worst considering all the other infractions, not to mention throwing Nutt under his bus.

  • So one of the best offensive minds in cfb was only able to squeak out 9 and 4 season with Lamar Jackson Heisman qb, in the ACC?
