Bobby Petrino is the perfect OC... for Hugh Freeze at Auburn.
Hooker lead the team with the 19th best roster to a #1 ranking beating the the best roster (Bama) at home and another top 10 roster (LSU) on the road. He also led the #1 offense in college football, but sure 15-7 is the defining metric for making Tennessee competitive against teams that have been blowing them out for years.
While extremely unlikely... 1 - TCU and USC lose. CFP committee decides they are both out and needs two teams. Buckeye's and 1 more. 2 - UGA embarrasses LSU on an Oregon level. The committee concludes that LSU beating Bama is a pretty huge blemish on Bama's resume and reranks the Vols to get the final spot. There's a reason Vegas considers this a 2% possibility, but what a parlay bet!
But isn't the main reason they don't like it because it usually leads to an all SEC championship? I guess that's boring but it usually is the truth that the 2 best teams are in the SEC.
The Dawgs were a clear cut above that day. It was a decisive victory. However, for the Playoff Committee to call it the equivalent of the 49-3 Oregon blowout? That boggles my mind.
I don't think of this as the committee building a floor for Tennessee. I see it as giving a ladder to Alabama. Bama will have a road loss to a top 4-5 Tennessee and 2 road wins vs teams in the top 10 of the CFP when Bama played them: LSU & Ole Miss. I can see many Tide stans making the case for them over the lower ranked of UGA/UT for the 4th spot.
