Tennessee vs. Ball State odds, promos to use
For the second year in a row, Tennessee will open the season up on a Thursday night with the Tennessee vs. Ball State game at 7:00 p.m. eastern time, live from Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. The game will air live on SEC Network.
Josh Heupel will open his second year as the Tennessee Volunteers coach. While the 2021 Vols secured a lackluster 7-6 record during Heupel’s first year, there were some promising signs that Heupel has the Vols pointed in the right direction.
The Vols were third in the conference in scoring offense with 38.8 points per game, only behind Alabama and Georgia. Hendon Hooker had a league best QB rating of 182 last season, just ahead of Georgia’s Stetson Bennet and Alabama’s Bryce Young, the Heisman Trophy winner. So despite, the mediocre record last season, there is optimism in Knoxville.

It points to how crucial it is that the Vols get off to a great start in 2022. The Vols are a heavy favorite in the Tennessee vs. Ball State matchup, but will go immediately from the opener to a non-conference game against Pitt (a game the Vols lost last year by a score of 41-34). Coach Heupel will undoubtedly like to see his team 3-0 going into the big week 4 matchup against the Florida Gators.
The Florida game is obviously a major rivalry game, but it also kicks off a brutal stretch where the Vols will play Florida, LSU and Alabama in a row. Yikes.
