What Kirby Smart said at halftime of national championship game
Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs thoroughly dominated the TCU Horned Frogs in the first half of the College Football Playoff national championship game.
Georgia leads at halftime 38-7, and incredibly, it’s not even as close as what the score may indicate.
While Smart’s defense dominated TCU and Max Duggan, the Bulldogs offense torched the Horned Frogs early and often. In fact, Georgia scored on every offensive possession in the first half — 5 touchdowns and 1 field goal.
Quarterback Stetson Bennett finished the first half 13-of-17 for 213 yards and 2 passing touchdowns, and he also rushed for 2 touchdowns.
Tight end Brock Bowers was a massive part of the Bulldogs game plan, as he caught 5 passes for 102 yards.
Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken was absolutely brilliant.
At halftime, Smart was asked about the first half and looking ahead to the second.
“We were aggressive, but it’s a 60-minute game,” Smart told ESPN. “We have not had our best moments in the third quarter, and they have. So, we’ve got to challenge our team to come out and play really physical and play aggressive.”
Kirby was being nice. He could have said that UGA could sit back and drink beer and eat nachos and TCU could never come back.
59-7 Georgia
So which UGA fan was it that said he was betting on TCU to cover and UGA to win?
How about what Desmond Howard said? UGA is so fired up because they have no business being there. Very bad take.
But, very, very Desmond.
