Damar Hamlin collapses during game, emergency personnel administer CPR on field
Damar Hamlin was injured during Buffalo’s Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Bills safety made a tackle against Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, and following the collision, Hamlin got back on his feet, took a couple of steps and collapsed on the field. It’s a terrifying situation in Cincinnati.
The officials immediately stopped play and medical personnel made their way quickly onto the field.
Below is a replay of the collision that involved Hamlin.

Hamlin was taken to the UC Medical Center via ambulance, and the Bengals and Bills game has been temporarily suspended.
Our prayers and thoughts are with Hamlin and his family during this time.
Prayers for this young man and his family. Praying he’s ok.
that hit reminds me of that 9 year old that had a heart attack after getting hit in the chest with a baseball. Hit just hard enough at just the right spot that it screwed up his heart’s rhythm. Took a few steps down the first base line and collapse. He survived hopefully this guy does as well.
Yeah the head didn’t snap back which is good. I just don’t feel like it was a spinal issue watching that play. If it was, then you would probably need to look at previous plays for a harder hit.
It looked like the corner of the shoulder pad hit him right in the chest. I’d be worried about a heart attack or maybe even a major artery rupturing.
Prayers for that young man!
Very probably it is commotio cordis—a direct hit to the chest at an exact point in the cardiac cycle that causes a lethal arrhythmia. Absolutely terrifying, prayers for a full recovery.
We’re also seeing cardiac cases in less contact and no contact sports with lots of aerobic activity (soccer in particular). I wonder if it’s related to the problem you’re describing or something else.
A lot of times it is caused by cardiomyopathy. Many times, it is undetectable.
Chris Pronger had a Hall of Fame hockey career after what almost certainly the same injury here. Hopefully a similar outcome for Hamlin. Scary for sure and praying for a recovery.
Pronger took a 120 mph rock hard puck to the chest, not saying it’s not the same issue as root cause,, or that other factors might not be in play as well, it’s not necessarily only ONE thing.
And Hamlin took a 220lb man to the chest. I guess it would be really weird if the same injury didn’t have identical mechanisms causing it though…
And no one fires a puck at 120mph.
It’s really weird how many significant cardiac events we’re seeing across sports in young and healthy athletes these last couple years. It’s happening in numbers not previously seen. Makes you wonder why that is.
You’re not allowed to think like that. That’s dangerous thought
Jon, trying to include a link to the replay of the hit is completely inappropriate and shows a complete lack of respect for Damar and his wellbeing. Thankfully, someone on the other end of that tweet had the decency to delete it. Maybe you should do the same you heartless POS
Yet it is ok to show someone getting shot on the nightly news?
When did I say it was? Grand standing on another’s suffering for ratings, clicks, or self-centered clout is detestable on any platform.
Let’s not look for an argument through distortion of context shall we?
May God bless him and keep him.
Praying for him and his loved ones.
