Georgia vs. TCU: 10 things you need to know about the Horned Frogs
Texas Christian University will play the University of Georgia for the national championship next Monday night in Los Angeles (7:30 pm, ESPN). It helps to read the sentence aloud, just to let the reality sink in, just in case the No. 3 Horned Frogs’ thrilling victory over No. 2 Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday wasn’t enough.
TCU, which finished the regular season 12-0 before dropping the Big 12 Championship Game to Kansas State, became the largest underdog (7.5 points at kickoff) to win a College Football Playoff game when they tripped up the Wolverines in the desert last weekend. They will be even larger underdogs against Georgia, which opened betting as a 13-point favorites early Sunday morning.
While TCU is absolutely a wonderful story, the Horned Frogs are much more than just a made-for-Hollywood underdog story. They are a tremendous football team, and if Georgia wants to repeat as national champions, they’ll need to play better football than they did in surviving Ohio State in the Peach Bowl on Saturday night.
Here are 10 things you need to know about TCU ahead of the College Football Playoff championship game.
TCU is the first team in the College Football Playoff era to begin the season unranked and play for the national championship
Just how magical has TCU’s season been? The Horned Frogs were unranked when the AP Top 25 dropped in August. In fact, TCU didn’t receive a single vote in either the AP or Coaches’ Preseason polls. The Horned Frogs didn’t receive a vote in the AP Poll until Week 5, when 1 lonely media member ranked them 25th. Monday night, TCU plays for the national championship. What an incredible journey.
A win would make TCU the second straight national champion that did not win its conference
For a while Saturday night, it looked as if the College Football Playoff championship would involve 2 teams that didn’t win their league. Then Georgia rallied, eliminating a situation where a second straight national champion that didn’t win its own conference was guaranteed. One of the largest practical reasons for a Playoff system is to make sure the best teams are afforded the opportunity to win, even if they don’t happen to win a winner-take-all conference championship game. The system has benefitted Alabama and Georgia previously, and if TCU pulls the upset on Monday night, they would become the 3rd team to win the College Football Playoff without lifting a trophy on conference championship weekend.
It would also make TCU the first Big 12 team to capture a College Football Playoff national championship
The Big 12 has not won a national championship in football since Vince Young’s magical game against Southern California in the January 2006 Rose Bowl. In fact, the Big 12 hasn’t played for a national title since Texas fell to Alabama in the BCS National Championship game in January 2010, helping Nick Saban win his first national championship at Alabama. Prior to this season, Oklahoma had been the only Big 12 program to appear in the College Football Playoff, and the Sooners were one-and-done in all 4 of their Playoff appearances. By simply reaching Los Angeles and the title game, TCU has made history. They’ll make more with a win on Monday night.
Against a top-10 schedule, TCU beat 5 ranked teams in the regular season
The Horned Frogs faced a top-10 regular-season schedule, per Team Rankings. It included 5 victories over ranked teams, including road wins at Kansas and Texas. The Horned Frogs’ Playoff semifinal win over Michigan was the team’s 6th victory over a ranked opponent. For perspective, Georgia finished the regular season with just 2 wins over ranked teams. The Dawgs have beaten 2 more since, of course, routing LSU in the SEC Championship Game and overcoming Ohio State in the Peach Bowl semifinal. Georgia has also played a top-10 schedule, and per the Stats Solutions ELO rankings (which accounts for every opponent’s strength of record), Georgia played the 3rd-most difficult slate in the SEC and 4th-most difficult schedule nationally, behind only Florida, Colorado and Auburn.
Sonny Dykes is the first coach in to reach the title game in Year 1
Striking a blow to fans and administrators screaming for “patience” across the sport, TCU coach Sonny Dykes is set to become the first head coach in his first year at a program to have his team play for the College Football Playoff championship. Due primarily to the dominance of a handful of programs (and coaches) in the sport, Dykes joins an exclusive fraternity of coaches to guide programs to the championship game, period: Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney, Urban Meyer, Ed Orgeron, Mark Helfrich, Ryan Day and Georgia’s own Kirby Smart are the only other coaches in the “coached in the College Football Playoff championship game” club. Dykes is the first to do it in season one on the job.
A win would be TCU’s 3rd national championship
Seriously.
The Horned Frogs previously won the national championship in 1935 and 1938. While both titles came well before college football integrated, the Horned Frogs would join Georgia with 3 national titles with a win.
Max Duggan played the worst game of his season in the Fiesta Bowl — and the Horned Frogs still won
Duggan, TCU’s star quarterback and the Heisman Trophy runner-up, was average in the Fiesta Bowl, completing only 14 of 29 passes for 225 yards. He also threw 2 interceptions. Granted, the Wolverines were the best statistical defense Duggan had faced all season, ranked in the top 5 in the country prior to the game. But the fact Duggan could struggle the way he did and the Horned Frogs could put up 51 points in the process offers some insight into just how explosive Dykes’ team is offensively.
Overall, Duggan has thrown for 3,546 yards and 32 touchdowns against just 6 interceptions after not winning the starting job out of fall camp. He replaced injured starter Chandler Morris in the 2nd half of TCU’s opener and hasn’t looked back.
Kendre Miller’s health matters immensely
The Horned Frogs found a way to win, as they have all season, despite losing Kendre Miller for most of the second half Saturday when the future NFL running back injured his right knee. Miller tweeted after the win that he’ll play Jan. 9, but that might be wishful thinking. TCU has a capable backup in Emari Demercado, who went 69 yards to the house in the Fiesta Bowl win.

Demercado is a powerful runner, too.
Emari Demarcado absolutely trucked number 11. Incredible running to ice the game. pic.twitter.com/FT8s1uJ5Q5

But to beat Georgia, the Horned Frogs need both Demercado and their 1,400-yard rusher, Miller. You have to be able to change backs and pace against the Bulldogs. Miller is faster and more elusive than Deearcado, and a future pro. His health is a huge story.
Quentin Johnston will be a first-round draft pick
Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. lit up the Dawgs in the Peach Bowl, winning about every matchup Will Muschamp and Smart threw his direction. While TCU’s Quentin Johnston lacks the NFL Hall-of-Fame bloodlines of Harrison, he’s every bit as special. Johnston is the best deep ball receiver in the country, and he showed it against Michigan, hauling in 6 catches for 163 yards. He’s also elite in space — just ask Michigan:
Quentin Johnston would look really nice in Giants blue.
Might be off the board though when the Giants are picking (23rd currently). pic.twitter.com/gX0DN0bHhC
— Doug Rush (@TheDougRush) January 1, 2023
The best part of Johnston? His penchant for massive performances in big games. Against ranked foes this year, Johnston has been at his best. He’s tallied 43 catches for 879 yards with 5 touchdowns in those contests. That’s about 75-80% of his season production (59 receptions, 1,066 yards) in big games. Those numbers help make it easy to explain why he’s a first round pick in most every mock NFL draft.
Dylan Horton is the “Jalen Carter” for TCU’s excellent defensive line
Jalen Carter is Georgia’s ultimate “X-factor” on defense, the linemen who may be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft and who impacts everything that happens schematically when Georgia’s opponents have the ball. He can rush the passer and the double teams he commands are a big reason Georgia leads the nation in run defense, allowing just 2.9 yards per attempt on the ground.
TCU doesn’t have a Carter, but they do have a quality defensive line led by Dylan Horton, an All-Big 12 performer who has 10 sacks and ranks 2nd on the Horned Frogs in tackles for loss with 16. The senior had 4 sacks against Michigan (after recording 2 in the Big 12 title game), and he’s a freakishly good athlete who projects to be selected in the 2nd or 3rd round of the NFL Draft thanks to his versatility.

— Lee Harvey (@MusikFan4Life) January 1, 2023
Horton runs a 4.5 40, which he showed off on the clip above, and his vertical leap of 38 inches was on display in his 2 tipped passes in the Playoff semifinal.
Look at the hustle by DL Dylan Horton (6’ 4”, 275 lbs) on this play. I love seeing big guys move like this. He had a good enough Senior season and big game today to get a lot of attention in the draft. He caught my eye last year when he had 4 Sacks but he did even better this pic.twitter.com/2c7cYEOEIS
— 49er_Edits (@49er_edits) January 1, 2023
There are not many players who make these types of hustle plays from the defensive line, but Horton’s ability to do so is illustrative of the sneaky athleticism that colors this TCU roster.
Frawgs vs. Dawgs!
LOL Good one
Thats a t shirt right there.
With the Frawgs being the biggest champ game Dawg of all time. +13. That’s a lot of points.
Hats off to all 4 PO participants. 2 great games on NYE with competitive grit exhibited by all 4 teams.
PS – It appears that the football gods are not happy about UCLA and USC moving to the B1G? Not certain why the letters ‘LA’ are not in the word CHOKE?
TCU obviously has some great athletes on their team. Duggan is a baller for sure. It’s a great story and in any other scenario I would be pulling for them.
I would say though that Neil should have noted that TCU’s 51 points included two pick sixes.
And TCUs defense also had 2 interceptions of McCarthy. Weren’t puck sixes but definitely also effected the game.
Um…
ga was pretty lucky to beat the but eyes. I felt confident osu would play a good game. I thought if ga and TCU made it to the CG, ga would likely win big. not so sure I have changed my mind But tcu has shown a lot more toughness than I thought they had. This could be a closer game than I thought.
I feel as though tOSU is lucky to have come that close to beating UGA.
Yeah, what folks aren’t recognizing is OSU played almost perfectly, and we made tons of mistakes, and we still won the game. When UGA plays near-perfect games we dominate. Oregon, USC, Tennessee, etc.
Then GA better play near-perfect against TCU.
Agree with Booches94. We better play near perfect.
OSU was incredible. Many mistakes made by UGA were OSU induced.
At the end of the day, UGA is the better team. It’s not a beauty contest as TCU will tell you.
OSU did not play perfectly and Georgia didn’t play that poorly. They were just very evenly matched teams. Georgia is good, but this edition is not the GOATs you guys think they are. Not by a long shot.
OSU played far from perfectly. But neither did TCU or Michigan. I just hope to see an entertaining championship game to cap off what has been the most entertaining bowl season in my life. And, I’m old.
mic and au.
not sure what game you were watching, but osu did play near perfect on offense and didn’t make any mistakes that ultimately cost them the game.
– how many dropped balls did you see osu have? zero
– how many turnovers did osu have? zero
– how many penalties did osu have on offense? idk, but they only had 4 penalties for 24 yds. that’s ridiculously low.
uga didn’t play perfect, but they certainly played well. osu easily played their best game of the year. that shouldn’t be debated. that’s a nod to both teams.
uga overcame a 14 pt deficit in the 4th qtr against the #4 rated team in the country…while that team committed no turnovers, had anny egregious penalties called on them and made no mental mistakes in potentially helping that comeback.
what uga did in that 4th qtr deserves a lot more regconition than either of you are willing to admit.
Not so fast on the OSU was lucky to come close. They played a solid game, probably one of, if not their best of the season. They were motivated, physical (we didn’t expect) and pretty much mistake free, and honestly should’ve won the game.
The problem is we all wrote of LSU torching our secondary in the SECCG but that myth was dispelled when Harrison went off Sat night and we had NO answer for Stroud and the scheme Day put together. Kirby and all our great defensive minds got out coached on that side of the ball and Ringo has let success go to his head (he got burned a lot). OSU WRs were wide open all night! And the adjustments Day made to allow more time for Stroud nullified Carter.
We were very lucky to win that game! And, it does take luck sometimes to win a Natty.
I certainly hope the Peach Bowl, gave the Dawgs a bit of “we’re not invincible” humble pie and it motivates them just like the SECCG last year.
I do hope the Dawgs blow the doors off TCU, but the evidence before me in the last few games doesn’t point in that direction. We will have to play better than the Peach Bowl to beat the Frogs.
I don’t see why they should have won the game. It’s not UGA didn’t miss 2 FGs as well as couple of other silly mistakes.
So, what you are saying is that you think the TCU offense is better than tOSU offense? Personally, I don’t think TCU has 4 WRs as skilled as the Bucknuts WRs, I don’t think Duggan is quite as elusive as Stroud or releases the ball as quickly, I don’t think SB4 will throw 2 pick 6’s, I don’t think TCUs defense is as strong as tOSUs, and I think our defense is a little quicker than Michigan’s…but all that being said, TCU seems to be a team of destiny this year, they play every down, they never quit and their coach is very prepared. It should be a great game…our depth chart has taken a big hit these past few games. UGA by 13…
I read a lot of excuses about the LSU game. Mostly about the game being out of hand that’s why they gave up so many yards but Daniels had over 200 yds in the first half and Nussmier lit them up from the start of the second half. The reality is the UGA pass defense is not good and can be exploited by good receivers. LSU and OSU have really good receivers. Are TCU’s receivers that good and can their O-line hold up?
Also, keep in mind that the only teams that recruit better than OSU are Bama and UGA. TCU doesn’t have close to the overall talent that OSU has.
Harrison going down = Jamison going down in the 2021 title game.
Changed the calculus for Ryan Day’s play calling which was excellent overall.
But hats off to UGA for fighting back from 2 14 point deficits! Bring Your Own Guts!
PS – Hate that UGA fans have to travel across the country. When the 12 team field starts in 2024 play all games on the home fields of the higher ranked teams (B1G teams can duck indoors in Detroit, INDY or Minny if need be) with the title game alternating between Jerry’s Palace and Indianapolis.
You may have noticed Georgia Captain Nolan Smith not in pads at the coin toss.
Every team has injuries.
I completely agree with you. And I’ve been saying for two months now that TCU is a better football team than Ohio State, and nothing I saw Saturday changed that belief.
I agree with some of these comments that TCU doesn’t have the receivers or QB that Ohio State had. But it’s not a massive gap between them at those positions. Where there is a massive gap is the running game. TCU’s running game is much better than Ohio State’s.
And because they play in the Big 12, people won’t want to hear this, but TCU is a more physical team than Ohio State. TCU is the most physical team Georgia will have played this year. I wouldn’t have believed that myself a couple months ago, but after seeing them Saturday, and in several other games late in the season, I’m a believer in that statement.
I think Georgia wins, but Stetson Bennett has to play better than he did Saturday.
You do know their conference championship game was late season, don’t you? And at the time everyone thought they were over rated and the Big12 championship was presumed a must win game, the ol mulligan game scenario of lose and still get in mentality did not apply when they were getting undressed by a much weaker K State team…
Wasn’t finished…Stetson must play better?
You are kidding, right? You do realize that he did win his third consecutive CFP Offensive Player of the game award, don’t you? Had you said our secondary has to play better I would have agreed with you…SB4 just needs to maintain…
If we have no answer we lose ? O put up 35 in the first 35. And 6 in the last 25. The answer Uga brought the house and said to hell with it. Harrison’s stats were not as good as you describe? Look it up. O had 37 days to rep that and UGA outshined them by 70 yards and missed 2 FG as well. The staff on D adjusted when we were down edge rushers and brought more than they could block. 6 points in the last 25. That is an in game adjustment. UGA will put the hardware in the case by double digits book it
No 35 in 35 and the 6 in 25 that is what is called an adjustment
Opposite.
Georgia got lucky.
One DB doesn’t fall down or a kicker doesn’t blow a kick at a range he was previously perfect from and they lose.
What do those two plays have in common?
Georgia didn’t cause either result.
Ohio St got even more lucky, we missed two field goals, they only missed one
Your kicker wasn’t perfect from those ranges previously. Him missing was more statistically likely.
The reason we all know Georgia was lucky is how all you guys flooded the comments within nanoseconds after the game with your ‘500 reasons it actually wasn’t a close game and Ohio State isn’t actually good team’. Expected results don’t breed that kind of reaction.
That’s you Gwhite, isn’t it?
The only thing I see…and if you are intelligent enough to look at the comments in the SDS articles immediately following the end of the game…NOT A SINGLE fan comment I saw dissing on tOSU, they played one hail of a game and every knowledgeable fan excluding you knows it…
Leg, I am surprised you have not figured out who it is. Not gwhite.
But I thought Truvol retired, this clown is nowhere as funny as he was…or did i swing and miss again JT?
Strike 2
It’s not gwhite. Gwhite does not use paragraph breaks, even in posts a thousand words long.
Gwhite also uses “lol” obsessively. He laughs more than Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker doing open mic stand-up.
Dagnabit man…strike two!
Well, his punctuation and grammar are really spot on good so that eliminates 95% of the Bama fans and 99% of the Vol fans…I’d like to buy a vowel
I figured it was BamaTime
DB Was run right by a td either way dawgs missed 2 FG we usually make as well. You think a 50 yarder is automatic put on the tape ?
BT? I said punctuation and grammar, what part of that did you miss…lol, strike 1 for you
B and a T.
Not a chance…Gabe could be pretty literate with whole sentences at times, could be him but absolutely no way mlc0808 is BT
enjoyed this exchange
I get it. They pulled out a surprise against Michigan. But why is the narrative TCU pulls out a gutsy win, and UGA was lucky?
And I use surprise lightly, because I chose TCU by 6.
Because TCU wasn’t a TD favorite like GA was over OSU. TCU was an 8pt underdog.
Which should be pretty obvious …
Were they favored against Kansas State?
Yes, why yes, they were…by 3.5
Yep, had nothing to do with it. If I asked for specific plays that were “lucky” for Georgia, I’d no doubt hear about calls reversed after replay review.
That’s not “luck”, that’s bad calls on the field.
And one of the worst calls of the game was the pass interference call on Georgia in the end zone on third down, on a pass that was 10+ feet over the receiver’s head.
If that play was reviewable, it would have been reversed too.
No. It was the DB falling down. Just dumb luck.
The replays all went UGA’s way and they were all close calls but they were all ultimately correct or at least justifiable. That’s not luck and I haven’t seen anyone claim it was.
I guess you are SDS’s new Madam Cleo and can look in your crystal ball and see that it wouldn’t have been a td if the DB doesn’t fall down… With Arian Smith’s speed the, safety was already toast in man coverage even before he got his ankles broke off.
Which is about the most inaccurate description of the play imaginable.
Georgia is LUCKY to be in the title game. Everything broke their way in the semifinal.
50-50 chance if it was tight coverage SB underthrows it
Yeah because no UGA receiver had beaten an OSU DB to that point.
Naw, I say that because Arian had to slow down and pause to catch the ball…but go with your take if you wish, I’m good with it…
The OSU defensive back fell down because he’s an inferior athlete to the Georgia wide receiver.
Besides, who cares if it WAS luck? The football gods love us and hate your team.
Sucks to be you.
I hope I am not perpetually paranoid and I know a Pac-12 crew did tOSU vs UGA but I’m wondering if any of the Power 2 conference referees should be calling a B1G or an SEC game?
Surprisingly to a Left Coast fan but I thought the Pac-12 Peach Bowl crew did a heck of a job. I cannot say the same for the SEC Fiesta Bowl crew but many the close play was decided by a 3rd party site in Pittsburgh.
Any close game will be scrutinized.
Because Neil wrote it.
Both TCU and UGA pulled out gutsy wins, no doubt. I have to go back to the refs in the TCU game. I’m glad TCU beat Michigan because – well, I’m from Texas and their uniforms are better than Michigan’s.
Anyone watching the replay knows that Michigan had a TD taken off the board by incompetent SEC refs that day. Would that have given Michigan the game? No, but it would have certainly changed the game dynamics in their favor. We’re always going to have missed calls – that’s part of the game you just have to accept. But when the correct call is made on the field in a split second and then the replay official takes all the time in the world to look over the play in slow motion and then still manages to screw it up and overturn the call in the field in the process – when that happens – officiating really needs to be fixed.
Sure, but 1st and goal from the 6 inch line??
I’m no fan of Michigan, but there aren’t many, if any, uniforms that are better. Certainly not TCU’s.
disagree completely. Most overrated unis in all of CFB. Basic ass blue jerseys and the ugliest helmets in the game. Not to mention their color scheme derives from the cub scouts… TCU on the other hand took what Oregon started and kept it from going too far. Most of all their jerseys fit their program so well. They aren’t a storied program. They have a chip on their shoulders before pre season rankings ever come out and I think their jerseys represent that team.
That’s dmmmm funny right there, a gump talking about another team’s ugly helmets
“But we have numbers on our helmets…that’s classic”
I’ve always thought Michigan’s helmets make them look like cyclists on the field. The short pants they wore against UGA last year went along with the cyclist theme really well and I can’t get it out of my head. Their uniforms look out of place on a football field for some reason.
Maybe because of the way the normally-reliable OSU kicker completely shanked the last kick so that it never had a prayer?
Only thing we need to know about the Horned Frogs is that despite their great run, they are going to get pounded Monday night by at least 21.
UGA won their repeat when Kirby was granted that timeout. The football gods are on their side. Tough for me to say that as a Gator.
Ohio State had 12 players in formation on that punt, so the timeout may not have even mattered.
True, but if that play had stood, OSU would have picked up a good chunk of yardage and put the kill shot on you guys.
TCU doesn’t have the depth that OSU does, simple as that. The depth is what kept OSU in it Saturday night. UGA will simply wear down TCU Monday.
And the way the officiating has been throughout the bowl games it is very likely no flag is thrown for 12 men on the field…I am glad Kirby didn’t give them a chance
Looking at video of it right now and definitely not seeing that. And even more definitely not seeing it flagged …
You would be wrong…12 players on the field – 3 wideouts left 4 linemen right of the center, 1 lineman and a TE on the left edge, the upback and the punter.
That being said I would bet that the bought and paid for Vegas Casino officiating crew would probably not have thrown the flag….
There are only about 1000 photos showing the 12 men on the web. Officials didn’t catch it.
Thank God Coach Smart did.
Of course you arent seeing it
If you’re not seeing it, you need to learn to count.
Blinded by hate.
Perhaps? I’m waiting for the line to go TCU 14 plus and then I am down on the Frogs.
Love this UGA team but I do not rate it as high as last year’s team.
That’s a fair statement
But to your point, I don’t rate our competition as high as last year’s CFP finalist either…
UGA vs Texas Chri stian U.
Oh right, everyone forgot that TCU was founded as a Chris tian schooooo.
Rabbi Yeshua thanks you for this comment.
Our kicker missed two field goals that were within his range but we’re lucky their kicker missed one? Well, we’re equally lucky….and now here comes the big, bad horned Frawgs to really put us in our place because they beat Michigan and we lucked our way past Ohio State. Okay.
Funny how that works, isn’t it?
During the game it felt like Georgia was being routed and they were in some aspects but Bennett mistakes flipped the score by at least 14 points. Pod was off and should have made at least one of the two missed FG’s. I know Ohio State fans think the officials screwed them but in fact they screwed Georgia a lot more including missing a hold on the 28 yard QB run that even put Ohio in position to try a game winning field goal, plus two horrible spots (each favoring Ohio by nearly 5 yards each); one gifted Ohio a field goal and the other helped extend a drive that resulted in a TD. The two botched calls that were reversed would both have cost Georgia the game.
Hey Neil,
How the hail can you get away with writing Texas Chri$tian but I can’t? If you have any stroke with the SDS moderator tell him or her to kiss my a$sp….
Oh….and a very HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and yours, Neil, I really enjoy your articles…you’re ability to hide 30% of your UF homerism is to be commended. Cheers my friend…
Merry Chri$ mas.
Since I saw TCU playin their championship game and vs. Michigan I’ve believed the Dawgs vs. Frogs game would be closer than the experts think. TCU has a lot of overall team speed and will provide a good test for the Dawgs, but Georgia wins another close one. Go Dawgs !
We
Missed 2 high-percentage fields goals
Threw an interception
Had a QB who was pressured and flustered most of the game, and, clearly off his game
Abandoned a run game where McIntosh averaged 14.0 ypc, Edwards averaged 7.3 ypc and Milton averaged 8.7 ypc
Neglected the Nation’s TE
Lost one of the Nation’s top TE’s to injury
Our leading WR was a non-factor due to existing injury
etc etc etc
And we sill scored 42 points
Clean up the mistakes, practice a little bit harder and game plan a little bit better. It’s going to be a tough, hard fought game but if we do what we are suppose to do then UGA repeats.
No one said Georgia’s not good.
But you can be good and also lucky … or even very lucky … which Georgia definitely was.
They also dramatically underestimated the Buckeyes with everyone thinking they could just out-tough or out-physical them … and allowing that mentality is a total failure of the coaching staff.
This years team plays up or down to the competition and has all year. This next team isn’t the opponent to do that with …
2 Georgia 85 Commits 93.37pp 15 five* 53 four* 989.89 total talent rating
3 Ohio State 84 Commits 92.82pp 14 five* 52 four* 983.26 total talent rating
The numbers do not support your idiotic take…try again
Those numbers don’t even address anything I said (not that I’m surprised …).
TCU has played with fire far more often requiring last minute heroics to beat several teams that didn’t belong on the field with a championship team
YET, UGA won the game. That was as tough of a 4 seed as the SEC champ has faced since the first year of the playoff.
Javon Bullard = the new Greg Blue, tattoo artist extraordinaire
My neck still hurts from that clean decleating he laid on Harrison…
If that OSU WR had the crabs before the hit he doesn’t now
Now that’s funny^
I think we didn’t game plan that well for OSU, all the drop back passes and counter plays, rarely attacking the edge, no rolling Stetson out (when he is at his best in my opinion). I also think we went away from the run way to early in the game, if we were smart about our run calls I really believe OSU could not have stopped us and we could have controlled the game and scored on every possession. I know if’s and but’s…..that said I believe the coaches have to take a deep look at how they managed that game from a planning standpoint and realize that our three running backs in week 15 are really our biggest offensive strength, and our quarterback is a really good run option pass guy that has been misused a good bit this year.
our quarterback is a really good run option pass guy that has been misused a good bit this year…
We are 14-0 aren’t we?
Didn’t we score 42 points?
don’t we have gaps in games where we look lost on offense? Look I love Stet, and am totally in his corner. and didn’t say anything bad about him, I just think our game plan for OSU was C- they out schemed us. I am super happy that we in total out prepared them (recruiting, development, toughness). But I blame the closeness of the game on the fact that we didn’t finish drives, didn’t control clock the way we could have. Running the ball, attacking the edge, and rolling Stetson out, not leaving him in the pocket.
We only punted twice and threw one interception.
Offense wasn’t the issue.
2 punts doesn’t tell the whole story, we attempted 4 field goals and only made 2, so yea two punts, 4 field goal attempts one pick…..seven possessions we did not score touchdowns, offense was no question part of the problem……
Yeah, and if the normally reliable Pod makes the FGs, it’s almost 50 points against the 4th ranked team in the country. They got to do better, I guess.
Stet has been named Offensive Player of the Game in all 3 CFP games he has played in. What are those nominators seeing that you aren’t? No team in the history of history has ever scored on every drive (except that 222-0 GT vs Cumberland in 1916 and possibly that 75-0 Uga vs UF 1942 beatdown…the Lehigh game might be one, also…but you get the point
Hey Neil, you’re always doing everything you can to make Georgia’s accomplishments look less than they are, and I wouldn’t expect anything else from a Floriduh ‘turd.
GEORGIA BEAT FIVE TEAMS THIS YEAR THAT WERE RANKED IN THE FINAL TOP-25 CFB POLL.
SO STICK YOUR FU BIAS IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT, ‘TURD!
Oh, and Happy New Year. :-)
See y’all in Jax in ten and a half months. Can’t wait to see Mertz in action. Hah!
Carter is NOT going to be the number 1 draft pick unless Houston trades the pick.
Dude got held all game. Tackled 3-4 times and was pissed.
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity!
TCU is going to get rolled. Bet the bank on UGA -13. They wont get two pix 6’s again, nor a lucky fumble on the 1. Hell they wont stop UGA at the goaline. This is going to be a SEC beat down and itll never be close. TCU is a great team, they have shown why they deserved their place in the CFP over Bama/USC/etc. I think they could have beaten a team like OSU in the natty but they aren’t set up to handle the physicality of an SEC team like UGA. They specialize in recruiting pure athletes. They don’t have mass. They will get destroyed in the trenches.
Lol.
”UGA got lucky”
They ran circles around OSU, missed 2 kicks and gave them the ball in the red zone for a score.
70 more yards of offense and 1.5yds a play more. OSU barely penalized, Stroud game of his life.
12 men on the field for OSU fake.
TCU gets 2 free TDs and Michigan turns boneheaded for 3 points total in 3 trips of 1st & Goal in the 5.
“UGA was the lucky one”.
I don’t think either team is lucky to be here. When you look at everything that has happened up to this point in the season, it’s pretty clear to me that these are the two best teams in the country this year. They deserve to be here, and they showed why on Saturday.
I will say that I’ve definitely got questions about Georgia’s secondary now. I chalked up the LSU game to them just playing conservative with a big lead, but Ohio State, albeit with the best receiving corps in the country, further exposed those weaknesses. TCU’s receivers aren’t as good as Ohio State’s, but I’d feel pretty confident that they’re better than LSU’s.
If Georgia will blitz at least 2/3 of the time, they’ll win this game fairly easily. It was baffling to me the number of times they didn’t blitz Stroud, and most of the time when they didn’t blitz, they weren’t getting pressure. When they blitzed, they were definitely making him uncomfortable. The biggest difference between TCU and Ohio State is O-line play, and TCU’s O-line is much better than Ohio State’s.
Also, Stetson Bennett has to play better for the whole game. If 4th Quarter Bennett shows up early, this won’t be close. If first half Stetson Bennett shows up, Georgia will probably have to pull it out late again.
Tcu line is not much better than 0 . Dawgs will put the hardware in the case .Dawgs will hit 50 again.Stet has been the best offensive player on the field in every playoff game he has played in He Will again
