Cormani McClain, 5-star 2023 CB, flips commitment from Miami
Cormani McClain is taking his talents out west.
The 5-star cornerback from Lakeland (Florida) has flipped his commitment from Miami to Deion Sanders’ Colorado program.

McClain is listed at 6-2, 165 pounds. On the 247Sports composite rankings, McClain is rated 5-stars, the No. 1 cornerback, No. 3 Florida product and No. 12 prospect overall nationally in the 2023 recruiting class.
It’s the latest twist in McClain’s recruitment. On Oct. 18, McClain announced a final 3 of Alabama, Florida and Miami.
Heading into McClain’s Oct. 27 announcement, recruiting experts predicted McClain would commit to Florida. Instead, he committed to Miami, shocking industry experts and Gator Nation in a big win for Mario Cristobal’s program.
McClain’s commitment to Miami, however, looked uncertain after he opted not to sign with the Hurricanes during December’s Early Signing Period. He recently checked out Sanders’ program in Boulder.
For Sanders, it’s another 5-star flip. In 2022, Sanders flipped 5-star CB Travis Hunter from Florida State to Jackson State. Hunter has transferred to Colorado.
I bet USC is shaking in their boots..
With Sanders son the starting qb USC and rest of Pac12 will be fine. Father son duo is going to be harder to pull off in D1 Power 5 than at Jackson St. This will be Deion’s biggest problem next 2 years, 100% contingent on how his kid plays QB. It’s a possible dream come true, or worst nightmare they could imagine. CU has had 3 qbs hit the portal, so everyone knows what’s coming.
I know you probably didn’t watch a lot of Jackson St. football but I watched a few games and Prime son is a baller, I mean the kid can really sling that rock and he’s a hell of a scrambler. And predict Colorado being a player in the Big 12 Championship sooner rather than later especially with the transfer portal at Coach Prime disposal.
The swac is not P-5. He may be great, but nothing he has done to this point says that he will be.
Tide8x5, not sure what your deal is with neon deon, but don’t count the man short just from your expectations. His son came to Bryant and played admirably right before both of them made the leap. I haven’t seen or heard a bad word yet from people close to them. We’ll see what prime does out yonder, but I’ll hold my tongue until then.
Did Colorado jump ship from the PAC?
I don’t see where I mentioned Deion. But since you asked. The guy has never been a coordinator, nor has he coached a position in college. He coached RBs I think at a couple of fake academies. This means he is totally dependent on others to install, run, and coach his offense and defense. His only experience as a head coach has been in the SWAC which is not too much above a good high school program. He may be great, but as I said about his son, above, nothing he has done thus far has any bearing on his ability to produce in the P-5.
That’s a bad take 8×5. Granted he hasn’t played vs P5 competition, but saying that he hasn’t done anything to indicate he could have success is like saying you cannot judge any hs recruit. There are talents and traits that can be used to predict how players may perform vs better competition. It is by no means iron clad, but has been good enough for hs recruiting.
No surprise. He will probably melt into obscurity.
What’s your problem with Deion? Travis Hunter hasn’t melted into obscurity and was the #1 recruit in the transfer portal and chose Deion again, the guy will be able to recruit just has to translate it to the field. Not to mention this is his 4th 4 star since becoming head coach two were flips
My only problem with him is that he recruits players to him, not the school. I wanted him at Auburn, but not after what he did to Jackson. If he has any success, he’ll burn Colorado in a couple of years as well.
The days of players being recruited to schools are long gone. They either recruit to a coach or an NIL deal.
Which coach doesn’t do that? You sound crazy right now
I will say again, I did not mention Deion, but since you asked, I answered your question above. Travis Hunter was #1 because of name recognition. He played in the SWAC for goodness sakes and that is barely above a top high school program.
So why be a hater? Nothing he’s done so far indicates he will fail or will be a bad coach. You honestly think Sam Pittman is a great X’s O’s guy? Coach O won a national championship delegating so for you to say those are reasons you think he will fail is asinine. Just say you don’t like the guy because he’s Confident and successful and move on
The show is not about the coach, and not even about one player. We have yet to see if Deon can make that final enlightenment.
Good.
Six-two and 165? S&C better be job one for him when he hits campus. He’ll need another 25 pounds minimum to play P5 ball reasonably safely at that height. He may be fast and have great coverage ability, but he’s likely to get broke without more mass.
Can’t stand Miami but I think they dogged a bullet on this one . Would love to know how much money nil is paying for this kids services . Maybe Rashada will join him ?
I wonder if Prime is having to dish out of his own pocket yet? I haven’t heard if Colorado ever came up with the dough for his contract, much less an NIL fund.
Drama queen. Perfect fit for Prime Slime.
People really will not like you because you’re different from them. What reason do you have not to like the guy?
I am excited….. Very strong set of athletes! Given that the portal can provide an entirely new team, rebuilding is completed in the off season. Hoping the coaching chops put them on the top, 2023 will tell.
Well, Cormani has shown himself to be indecisive and swayed by shiny objects, but that said, I think this is a good decision for him. And I would guess he is walking away from significant dollars in Miami, but who knows.
He has length but needs to add bulk and by all accounts is raw in technique. He was rated more for raw ability. Working with Prime is a good learning choice.
