Tennessee QB, former 4-star recruit, reportedly enters transfer portal
As Tennessee’s quarterback depth chart, and offensive coaching staff, settles into place ahead of the 2023 season, one of the quarterbacks is reportedly on the move.
Tennessee QB Tayven Jackson is entering the transfer portal, according to multiple reports, as the former 4-star QB was in a group with Joe Milton and 5-star incoming freshman Nico Iamaleava. Jackson dealt with a shoulder injury and ultimately redshirted during the 2022 season as the third-stringer appeared in just 3 games.
Bruce Feldman of The Athletic and FOX Sports noted that, “Some college coaches thought he was one of the most talented quarterbacks in the 2022 signing class.”
In 3 games, Jackson was 3-of-4 passing for 22 yards and added 10 yards on four carries with a touchdown.
When Jackson committed, he was Jackson was the third-highest rated uncommitted quarterback prospect in the country prior to his decision to commit to the Volunteers. He’s from Greenwood, Indiana.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Jackson as a recruit was rated as the No. 18 pro-style passer in the country in the 2022 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Tennessee online sports betting officially launched on November 1, 2020, and many of the largest sportsbooks are live and operating in the volunteer state. Tennessee is only one of a handful of SEC football states with legalized sports betting.
Hate to see him go but understandable. I wish him the best. He will be a very good get for someone.
I totally agree. He’s a player for sure.

possible. may end up with the freeze or back up north too.
Might go to Florida too. Who knows?
Greenwood IN is less than 3 hours from Lexington. He could still play in the SEC and at this point probably have a better chance at becoming the starter.
Can’t say that I blame him
I wondered when this was going to happen, really saw him as the odd man out for the Vols.
Dude saw Iamaleava up close in December and made a business decision.
You better hope Milton stays. Because your going to need him year one of Nico Iamaleava. Because Nico Iamaleava might not be ready to run out there and be Hooker right away!!!!! Georgia will eat that kid up and spit him out in year one!!!! Milton is the best QB Tennessee has right now!!!!
Georgia has 3 5 star QBs that all had better numbers than Nico Iamaleava. Yet they didn’t beat out the experienced assassin Stetson Bennett aka the MAILMAN!!!!! This ain’t trolling. This is just a fact. Today’s 5 star QBs need at least a year to sit and learn at the starters feet!!! If you try and throw the 5 star out there. Just because he’s ranked high……
You run the risk of turning them into a Felipe Franks or Emory Jones!!!!!
Both of those guys were ranked 5 stars coming out of high school. They both could run and throw in high school!!!! I don’t think anyone would mistake Emory Jones for an elite passer now!!! As he sadly just keeps fizzling away. Going from Florida to some smaller school then I think he might be playing for FOOD-U now. To use Josh Pate’s analogy!!!! In other words rice or some school like that!!! Felipe Franks was lucky enough to finish his career at Arkansas. And he was a steady QB until Georgia got a hold of him. Then it was back to DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS MODE!!!! Once again. He was steady but not anything like you think of, when you think 5 STAR QB!!!!!!
That’s because Florida ruined both of those kids by running them out there too quickly. Just because they came in the door with MAD SKILLS!!!! They weren’t ready for the SEC and it was obvious!!!!
5 STAR SKILL DOES NOT MEAN ALL AMERICAN QB! THAT SKILL NEEDS TO BE CULTIVATED AND BROUGHT ALONG SOMETIMES SLOWLY!!! But it pays off in the end…
To make it simple I hope that Nico Iamaleava wasn’t promised to start day one!!! Because Joe Milton needs to start period. That is Tennessee’s very best chance at being good again next season!!!!
And pleeeeeeeeeaaaaaase don’t freak out over how he might look in your spring game. Provided you have one. Because he knows he can’t be hit. That is no way to judge his true skill. Auburn had a kid that because a Heisman trophy favorite. All based upon how he played in the spring game!!! I gave them the same advice. They didn’t listen. Well when the real games started. He got hit a bunch and couldn’t hit a receiver to save the program!!!! I think he was benched within the first few weeks!!!! I think he transferred because I never heard of him again!!!!!
PS. Spring games are for fun. A glorified scrimmage!!! That is all. So don’t fall into that trap. Bring Nico Iamaleava along slowly and y’all might have something!!!!!
John 3:16 & after…..

Gee thanks for you’re comments about a former Vol QB, not that I read them. Doubt anyone else will either.
With Josh Heupel as HC the QB position isn’t one of concern. He will have a talented signal caller, don’t worry.
D*mnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
With The $8,000,000.00 Man in town, there’s nothin left in the Cookie Jar (McDonald Bag) to go around.
Do a little research and get it straight, it was actually a Chick Fil A bag.
Believe what you will, the NIL collective has plenty of cash!
