Pete Golding, Alabama defensive coordinator, reportedly makes career decision for 2023 season
Pete Golding is leaving Alabama for a new position in the SEC West.
Chris Low of ESPN reported that Golding is leaving Alabama to replace Chris Partridge as defensive coordinator at Ole Miss. Golding, who is often criticized by Alabama fans, has been with Nick Saban at Alabama since 2018, and for the last 4 seasons as DC.
Golding came to Tuscaloosa after he coached defensive backs and handling the defensive coordinator duties at the University of Texas-San Antonio in 2016 and 2017.
Before Golding joined the UTSA staff, he spent 2 years as an assistant coach at Southern Miss where he coached the safeties.
Golding ahead of the Kansas State game was asked about his Alabama future, and he said, “I’m still under contract, so absolutely.”

Praise the Lord above now Bill O Bozo is next!!
So will this move cut back on the defensive penalties next season or nah?
Pete will be missed.
Sincerely, the bars on The Strip.
Good
Now PLEASE get somebody better. Need to cut down on stupid defensive penalties, improve pass defense, etc.
Hopefully, O’Brien’s contract is not extended after it expires in Feb.
OK Jeremy pruitt where are you Hiding at right now!!
McDonalds or Chic-Fil-A just waiting for that next batch of recruits.
No he’s playing poker in tunica. He keeps his chips in a McDonald’s bag though…. Fishy
I don’t think even Pruitt would eat a filet o fish.
Pruitt is not going to be the next DC. If you hire him, what are you going to do if the NCAA hits him with a show cause?
Pruitt has not been cleared by NCAA per UT sanctions, he is under a possible show cause depending outcome. Right now he is impossible to hire.
Laugh all ya’ll want at us for being excited about this. I love this hire. Our defense has shown improvement over the last three years, Golding will take it to the next level, maybe not elite but definitely “good”. Plus hes at least a decent recruiter from the SOUTH. Which is huge in itself. And just look at Golding, he looks straight outta Oxford.
Yeah that “A” on the jacket kinda makes difference…just sayin.
Makes what difference? Remember when it was a gator or a “LSU” or a buckeye or a tiger paw and now a “G” that are all the “best logos on a jacket”…just sayin.
A good coach is a good coach.
He was talking about the A making a difference in recruiting.
Me too dip spit
I have a feeling Glenn Shuman will be heading to Tuscaloosa
I’d be a lot surprised if he is who Saban identifies as his DC. He’d be a great hire but not what Saban wants I don’t think. I’m thinking Saban picks from the NFL or Pruitt
I don’t see it being Pruitt. What do you do if you hire him and then the NCAA hits him with a show cause?
They can’t hire Pruitt bc he hasn’t been cleared by NCAA bc he is under a possible show cause depending on outcome of UT sanctions. It states it in the possible penalties.
They could hire him, as he has not been found guilty of any violations. Though if they do, and then he has a show cause penalty levied, then they will either have to fire him, or he will not be able to recruit off campus, which will make him totally ineffective. It would depend on the findings of the NCAA.
I’m sure he was “encouraged” to find a new opportunity.
I am too. No offense to OM but it is a step down in prestige and probably income.
Prayer works!
1 down…
I’m sure a lot of fans would be happy with Pruitt returning, as a proven commodity in the position. However, can he jump back in at DC without going through the usual rehabilitation route? Can he recruit right now with the baggage? We shall see.
On the other side of the ball, little Riley has already been snatched up, so does Freddie Kitchens get a look? He seemed to be doing a lot more than just ‘analysis’ for South Carolina on the sidelines there, and that offense showed a great deal more creativity by comparison, especially in the home stretch.
Can he avoid a show cause?

Haha. Nice
OMG has Ole Miss lost their minds!? I’ll be glad to see the back of him for sure, but I think Lane Kiffen has lost his marbles! Pete Golding needs to be at some small, out-of-the-way place, NOT coaching in the SEC!
Yet Saban kept him as his DC for four years. What does that say about the GOAT?
Hey, even GOATS can make mistakes. Seriously though, Schumann’s an up & coming. I’d say give him a shot. NO to Pruitt.
I agree with all of that.
A lot of Bama fans seem to want Pruitt. That’s right up there with the Aggies hiring Petrino. Character should mean something when leading college students.
I would go after one of the guys at UGA. They are proven. A good DC in the NFL isn’t likely going to Alabama. Saban is going to want someone proven, not another project.
Mind your own business!!
Glen Schumann is a BAMA player and coach. At 32, is at that age to take the next step up. But who knows?
Sorry, not sure what I was thinking. I’d actually prefer that they not get him.
Better. Thx.
This looks like Saban saying find another job. This is a step down. No offense intended, but I doubt he makes the same amount of money, and it is assured he will not have the same level of players.
Is there a time limit on Pruitt with the show cause… 3 yrs ? 5?
It has not been levied as of yet. It could be nothing, or 1-3 years. I have not seen a HC get one of 3 years, but it is possible. Hugh Freeze only got a one year show cause with all the violations OM had. So, you never know.
