Walker Howard, former LSU quarterback, announces transfer destination
Walker Howard is staying in the SEC.
After spending 1 season at LSU under coach Brian Kelly, Howard is transferring to Ole Miss to play for Lane Kiffin and the Rebels.
Howard made that announcement on Wednesday morning:

Howard played sparingly as a true freshman at LSU. He completed 2-of-4 passes for 7 yards during his limited playing time. He also rushed the ball 6 times for 33 yards.
Howard was a highly-touted prospect coming out of high school. He was the No. 40 overall player and the No. 5 quarterback in the country for the class of 2022, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
With Jayden Daniels returning to LSU in 2023, Howard opted for the transfer portal in search of more playing time. He could have the opportunity to compete for Ole Miss’ starting job next season.
Ole Miss’ starter in 2022, Jaxson Dart, struggled at times. He finished the year with a 143.6 passer efficiency rating, which ranked 7th in the SEC amongst qualified passers. He also threw 11 interceptions, which was more than every other QB in the SEC except for Spencer Rattler.
Howard and the Rebels will host LSU on Sept. 30, 2023.
Big pickup! Multi-year eligibility left too.
Good pickup for the RebelBlackBearLandsharks.
Figured he’d go to TCU for a quicker path to play and reunite with Jack Bech, but he must see something at Ole Miss he’d prefer.
I think he has a chance to start later in the season if Dart doesn’t improve. That being said, we all know how much Matt Corral improved in year 2 under Kiffin. Either way Walker will most likely end up being a starter at OleMiss due to his remaining eligibility.
Another big whiff by Napier.
It is entertaining watching the fan base get down on a coach for recruiting despite a strong track record of success in the transfer portal. Each year the portal pickups have been impressive.
I trust Kiffin and his process. That being said, he definitely missed on some big names on signing day. Specifically 2 of the 4 star commits that flipped. However, it each year our “blue chip” percentage has increased under Kiffin and right now we are on track to do that again which is what really matters in the long run.
WOOT WOOT
TX A&M pays up for Reed who is far inferior and we end up with Walker. What a power play by Kiffin!! We ain’t done yet!
Manning to Texas and legacy QB transfers from LSU…CRAZY times indeed! With his character and family, this could be the biggest signing of the year for Ole Miss. Wish him every success!
Howard would have remained at LSU if either Daniels or Nussmeier would have left.
But, hope he plays well except against LSU. Hope he loses each time in that game.
As for Manning, you’ll never see a Manning playing for LSU.
