Georgia defender, who played in 14 games this past season, reportedly enters transfer portal
Trezmen Marshall is the latest Georgia player to enter the transfer portal.
Marshall, an inside linebacker, is the 6th Bulldog to reportedly make plans for a change of scenery, Dawgs247 reported. He’s played in 42 games for Georgia the last 4 seasons. He has 2 years of eligibility remaining.
Marshall, who is 6-foot-1 and 230 pounds out of Homerville, Georgia (Clinch County) played in 14 of Georgia’s 15 games this past season. He made 19 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 pass break-up, 1 quarterback hurry and 1 interception. He had 4 tackles against Mississippi State and South Carolina, and he also had his first career pick against the Gamecocks.
Coming out of high school, Marshall was a 4-star prospect according to 247Sports, and was ranked as the No. 7 inside linebacker nationally, No. 122 overall prospect nationally and the No. 13 prospect in Georgia.
Has been coached and developed by the best in college football
Marshall is going to make a helluva starter for some lucky program, we’ll probably see him in the NFL
I guess he wasn’t developed well enough to get the playing time he wanted.
Both starting MLB’s are back next season and some of the true freshmen really shined this season – Javon Walker (ILB) and Marvin Jones Jr (OLB)
Most are ranking UGA’s LB class this recruiting cycle as the #1 LB Class. Kirby gave a shout out to early enrollee CJ Allen for doing a great job on the scout team in mimicking TCU’s star LB.
Kind of like Alvin Kamala at Bama, he was and is a great RB but just couldn’t break into the starting ranks at Bama

Key depth piece that will be missed. He will start for somebody.
That is what the portal robs you of. The real depth. Then when there are injuries, you have to go with players with little experience and that usually comes back to bite you if the injured player is out long.
Now the real challenge begins for Georgia. NIL has completely changed the landscape of college football. Backups and even starters are cashing in all across the country. No conference and no team is immune. Georgia and Alabama are particularly vulnerable. Guys got their national rings…now they want the money. Free agency with little restriction is here. Great for players – not so much for the fans.
In a lot of cases, you are dead on. But, for this guy I don’t get it. Is someone going to offer him NIL money?
If he fits the bill (likely), I can see Kelly at LSU offering this guy NIL. We just lost a good ILB this week and now have a need.
I guess.
Spot on. NIL and the portal are roughly equivalent to NFL free agency. The biggest difference is NCAA teams don’t have a salary cap on the players.
The other big difference is that the NFL actually has enforceable rules around free agency and contracts and teams can’t contact a player under contract about deals they would like to offer. I think you will continue to see a lot (not in the case of Marshall, I don’t think) is teams that will poach away the lower parts of the depth chart in less than subtle ways.
Where they are the same is that NFL teams also have workarounds for that rule.
In this case in particular, I think he was probably told by UGA that he isn’t going to start (something that he probably knows) and that they would like to use his spot for a young player that they can develop. But it’s a benefit for the player in a way as well. For Marshall (and keep an eye on the name Rian Davis for the portal as well) they get to be free agents and there are dozens of P5 schools that can use their talents and may even pay them to do so.
MJ Sherman is hitting the transfer portal now, that’s a lot of experience between Marshall and Sherman.
This is getting out of hand. Why would someone leave the #1 program unless they’re getting a sweetheart deal? Don’t mind NIL but there needs to be rules and structure around it.
These are good athletes but not starters, being a starter is where the NIL money is at. Plus, these guys want to get on the field and be the man
Not a big fan of the portal or of NIL, but I honestly believe in some cases like this, it is more about getting a starting spot somewhere so the NFL scouts can take notice. I’m sure he has NFL aspirations, and it’s not a good look to not be able to break into the starting lineup on your college team. I sure wouldn’t mind seeing him end up on my Sooners team!
