Jim Harbaugh officially makes decision on where he'll coach in 2023
Jim Harbaugh has flirted with a return to the NFL in recent offseasons. This offseason, he has reportedly drawn interest from the Denver Broncos and other teams with head coaching vacancies.
But, per Michigan president Santa Ono, Harbaugh will remain in Ann Arbor as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines in 2023.
Ono revealed the news on Twitter on Monday afternoon:
I just got off the phone with Coach Harbaugh and Jim shared with me the great news that he is going to remain as the Head Coach of the Michigan Wolverines. That is fantastic news that I have communicated to our Athletic Director Warde Manuel. #GoBlue! pic.twitter.com/3LJzsv4zN9

Shortly thereafter, Harbaugh released a statement through the Michigan Football Twitter account, saying his heart is with the Wolverines:

Since taking over at Michigan in 2015, Harbaugh has compiled an overall record of 74-25. He has led the Wolverines to back-to-back Big Ten championships and back-to-back College Football Playoff berths.
The Wolverines have lost both CFP games in the semifinals. Can they take the next step under Harbaugh in 2023?
Can they take the next step under Harbaugh in 2023?
No, they can not.
The next step is not getting two teams in the fictional playoff for that conference.
I wonder if he got yet another pay increase to stay. Michigan would probably be better off to pay him a little more than let him leave. Top 5 is substantially better than the vast majority of college football programs can hope for.
The NFL teams decided to “go in a different direction”.
Exactly. If he had an NFL HC offer he’d be an NFL HC right now.
With the way Harbaugh acted towards management in SF, I’m surprised he even got an interview with Denver. Very good coach, but a very odd, difficult dude. His relationship with the Michigan AD is dysfunctional as well. But he wins and has beaten Ohio St twice, so UM puts up with his nonsense.
His relationships are what is keeping him in college. He is 2-5 vs OSU. Not exactly setting the woods on fire.
You got that right Law_Dawg.
He made over 10 million this year with incentives. Michigan will have to pay him more after cutting his salary in 2020. As long he beats Ohio State which Michigan did once in 15 years before him, they won’t get rid of him anytime soon. He’s got it made in AA.
Makes me want to go play for him, knowing he’s hardly sure he’s going to stay year to year..
Thinking “this time some NFL team will make him equipment manager”, is what keeps some of his team from transferring to the MAC, and Great Lakes conferences every year.
