Georgia DB, former 5-star recruit, reportedly entering NCAA transfer portal
Georgia defensive back Jaheim Singletary is looking for a change of scenery. According to a report from Jake Rowe on On3 Sports, Singletary intends to enter the transfer portal in the coming days.
Singletary, formerly a 5-star recruit out of Riverside High School (Jacksonville, Florida), is expected to be pursued by several teams. According to the 247Sports Composite, Singletary was the No. 5 cornerback in the country, the No. 5 overall prospect in the state of Florida and the No. 27 prospect in the nation for the Class of 2022.
Singletary faced a lot of competition on the depth chart heading into the 2023 season, with Kamari Lassiter set to return, Daylen Everette expected to be listed above Singletary and with Nyland Green still in the fold.
Georgia also added 4 more defensive backs in the 2023 signing class.

Singletary was a five-star prospect and top 30 player in the On3 consensus.

Tough. Not ideal for depth but I think even with this loss, UGA is incredibly deep at CB for 2023. Green and Everette will fight for that other spot and the loser will probably rotate in regularly. 2022 was one of the first years I’ve seen in a while where UGA wasn’t rotating a 3rd corner or Star in the game regularly.
Under the Caveat that there is no such thing as too much depth, I don’t think changes depth too much from a talent perspective. And I don’t think it changes much from an experience perspective either. I’m willing to bet he wasn’t grasping the system, with Bullard, Lassiter, and Starks being underclassmen, and I’m thinking Aguero is a day 1 starter, I just don’t think there was enough playing time to go around with what’s left on depth chart, and the incoming freshman class.
I wish him the best.
Come to Arkansas and get all the play time you want and quality development!
I think you’re right and he’d be better suited for Arkansas. LSU is a good choice as well.
This is a perfect case why the immediate eligibility for transfers rule is good. They just need to limit it to a one-time deal, then sit out like the old rule for a 2nd or any additional transfer.
Isn’t that the rule?
It is. Only grad transfer after the original transfer. I’m assuming this transfer rule will be short lived. Commitments should be contracts and should be treated as such.
Contracts are just legally binding agreements. So a contract could still say “you can transfer out if you choose to” …..
Well, contracts go both ways so the school will have to have some sort of obligation like the player cannot be cut or kicked off the team for any reason if you want to make it so they can’t leave on their own. I don’t think that’s quite the direction they need to go.
If someone is not playing as much as they want they should be allowed to transfer in my opinion. One can debate if programs should be limited to being 3 deep, 4 deep, 5 deep etc. meaning 66 on the roster, 88, 110, or 132. 4 deep seems like a good number
Like Kirby said, his team is stacked with elite players with a no entitlement attitude clause, would love to have seen Jaheim stay and continue his development but playing time has to be earned in Athens…best wishes to the kid wherever he gets that promise to start…
Best of luck to the young man, I hope he realizes all of his dreams and aspirations.
Most likely leaving because of where he is on the depth chart; got to love it when 5- star All Americans transfer out because they can’t move up the depth chart.
If only Kirby Dumbs could develop players …

No way he goes to MS State or Ole Miss.

Come to Auburn young man. You will get playing time there.
Auburn does have arguably the best DB coaches in the conference in McGriff and Ethridge, but we have a very crowded DB room. Don’t hold your breathe on this one.
Being a Florida native, I suspect he ends up back in the Sunshine State.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see him show up at Miami.
Yeah…we would love him but I bet Mario and Co will get at him…then you have the Deion factor, being he is a Ft Myers guy.
I wonder if Lanning will try to lure him out West.
