Joel Klatt evaluates Alabama's chances to make the Playoff next season
Alabama missed out on the College Football Playoff in 2022.
The Crimson Tide, however, still finished 11-2 in what many considered a down year after beating Kansas State soundly in the Sugar Bowl, 45-20.
There were some who believed Alabama deserved CFP consideration this season given that its only 2 loses came on the final play in road games at LSU and Tennessee.
One analyst who consistently said the Crimson Tide didn’t warrant consideration was Joel Klatt of Fox Sports.
On Wednesday’s edition of the “Joel Klatt Show,” Klatt discussed Alabama’s win over the Wildcats and its chances of returning to the CFP next season.
“Alabama went out there and didn’t look great early but then turned it on,” Klatt said. “That was a dominant performance. Alabama is one of the best teams int he country. Nobody disputes that.
“I still stand by exactly what I said last week; I do think that this is a very disappointing season for Alabama and Alabama fans. I don’t think there’s any way around that based on the expectations that they had coming into the season.”
Klatt, however, believes the Crimson Tide will be squarely in the mix to win another national title next year, thanks in large part to Nick Saban and the talent level in the program.
“Is it going to be a changing of the guard at Alabama? Yes. It absolutely is,” Klatt said. “Now, what they can rest on is that they have done this time and time again. Remember, since Nick Saban won his first title at Alabama, they have not gone three years without a title.
“So next year is that year. The biggest draught that they’ve had has been two seasons. … Do I think they’re going to be good? Yeah, they’re going to be damn good. There’s no doubt in mind.”

REALY !
No proven cube, no difference makers coming back on offensive line or receiver or defensively less Turner, complete uncertainty with the coordinators and a haggard soon to be 72 year old coach that’s lost his fastball and been caught and passed by his mentee. Yes they had a great recruiting class on paper but so did UGA and a few others but no great team can rely on its most recent class in complete to offset nicks misidentification of talent in the previous classes. While so easy to be a hater, not doing so in objectively predicting LSU wins the west next year again.
He’s been caught in this position and responded.
I expect he’ll do so again. Congrats on 2 seasons of great football – hopefully we can at least even the score from last year.
UGAplayswithmyD, well well you took time from f u c k i n g children to comment on a Bama page again, LOL! How does Saban’s d i c k taste? Do you have to fight negan for it? How many kids did you m o le s t over the holidays? Sad, sad little man. Leave the kids alone you f u c k i n g per vert!
Talk about perversion. How does this post remain on this site? ^^^
Because nobody on here can do a god d a m n thing about it so go f u c k yourself! LMAO
Well, I just reported you Kirby, so if you get bounced off the site, you can blame me.
Apparently you didn’t report it to the right people you f u c k i n g moron. Congrats on your stolen valor there though!
I’ll keep trying.
Looks like 13 starters have already declared for the draft. New QB. Same coordinators. It wouldn’t surprise me if they reload and win all their games. It also wouldn’t surprise me if they take a step back. My guess is somewhere between, maybe another 10-2 team.
I read this nonsense just so I could see how some idiot can predict in January whether a team will be in the playoffs next January. If this could possibly be done, why didn’t he pick the rest of the teams?
Not really impressed with Klatt in anything written or said.
Why write this article? Bama is ALWAYS going to be in the CFP and Natty conversation as long as the GOAT is there and they continue to dominate recruiting.
Bama Bone you definitely may. I respect all opponents and know they can beat my favorite team, most of all nick and Alabama.
Just like this year, Alabama has the most talent in CFB, so they should challenge for a NC in 2023. Just like this year, it will be dependent on coaching and development.
Mike Price was hired to be the head coach at the University of Alabama prior to the 2003 season, but was fired before ever coaching a game for the Crimson Tide due to an off-field issue involving photos that surfaced of Price in a strip club.
LSU-UGA rematch.
I’m biased but you gotta be a real homer to think Bama won’t be much worse.
