Bill O'Brien reportedly interviews for vacant NFL OC job, where he's considered a 'top candidate'
Bill O’Brien has interviewed for the vacant offensive coordinator position with the New England Patriots where he is considered a top candidate.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported the news that the interview happened on Thursday.
For the past 2 seasons, O’Brien has served as Nick Saban’s offensive coordinator at Alabama. From 2007 to 2011, O’Brien was on Belichick’s staff with the New England Patriots.
Alabama with O’Brien calling plays finished with the nation’s No. 4 scoring offense, tied with Georgia at 41.1 points per game. The Tide also finished 11th in yards per game, averaging 477.2 yards per contest.
Speculation about O’Brien’s return to the NFL has persisted for weeks, as he’s been mentioned as a possible play-caller with the Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The #Patriots have interviewed #Bama OC Bill O’Brien today for their vacant OC job, sources say. He’s considered a top candidate.

Interviewer: So, how would you describe your offensive strategy? O’Brien: Call a predictable play that does nothing to exploit the defense, then watch Bryce young improvise.
That is spot on.
run
screen
screen-Bryce works magic
punt/TD
Left off don’t need a trap play.
BOB says again he is too loyal to Nick to leave at this time!!!!!!!
Negan
Go get a job, Negan, and get out of your parent’s basement and do something productive, you schmuck!!
2nd and 26 appears to have long lasting effects.
bama fans must be real happy about this
So the next OC is going to get Bama to what, 45 or 50 points per game? I bet Bama averaged at least 35 against Power 5 competition which is more of an indicator of how good an offense is. The points against lesser competition doesn’t matter to me. If O’Brien leaves and Monken leaves us, the next OC will have a difficult time exceeding what those guys have done.
lol what has O’Brien done besides ruin what could have been a Bama Championship run if our offense didn’t run a screen every other play. Kingsbury will replace him and take us back to glory.
If It’s top two receivers don’t go down against Georgia, Bama wins a national championship while throwing screens.
LOL…sure gump. And IF Tua was right handed instead of left handed he misses the receiver on 2nd and 26…IF Georgia’s top 2 defenders don’t go down during the 2017 season, IF Jake Fromm was 2 inches taller, IF Kirby benched SB4 last year, IF if if…
Posted this on another article but the fact that we finished 25th in Redzone offense and 25th in 3rd down conversion offense is what frustrates Bama fans.
KBP…….Alabama averaged exactly what Georgia did. About 40 per game!!!! They averaged exactly what Georgia did and were 4th in offense with Georgia. 4Th in the country!!!!!!!
PS. Without Bryce Young I’m not sure they can get close to what you said!!!!!
Negan
boB called playeds. and that’s all. did not set up plays. i could have won 8-10 games with the talent he had.
Number two of Alabama’s SEC shorts checklist…
Alabama fans rejoice but I’m not sure why. Bama had the 4th or 5th ranked scoring offense last year. With questionable OL and WR.
Posted this above but the rejoicing is because of a lack of ability to sustain drives and control the game and an over reliance on explosive plays. With those explosive plays not being a result of clever, Lane Kiffin type play calling, but a result of having Bryce Young.
Having the 4th best scoring offense while finishing 25th in Redzone offense and 25th in 3rd down conversion offense is what frustrates Bama fans. Points were left on the field every single game.
Example being LSU finishing 41st in total defense yet holding Bama to 31 pts.
But everyone who wants to take a shot at Bama fans for wanting BoB to leave seems to ignore these points when they’re raised.
Bama definitely needs to get back to running the football more , bill seemed to predictable no creativity or play design a big drop off from sark
