Stetson Bennett receives only QB award that includes postseason performances
Stetson Bennett picked up another award, and this time he received the only quarterback award that includes postseason performances.
The Sugar Bowl handed Bennett the 2022 Manning Award as he became the the fourth straight quarterback from the Southeastern Conference to earn the honor.
The Manning Award, now in its 19th year, was created by the Sugar Bowl to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that takes into consideration the candidates’ bowl and playoff performances in its balloting. The award is voted on by a panel of local and national media, as well as each of the Mannings.
In 3 postseason games this year (the SEC Championship, CFP Semifinal, and CFP Championship), Bennett completed 64-of-88 (72.8%) passes for 976 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also ran for 3 scores with just one interception. For the full season, he was 310-of-454 (68.3%) for 4,127 yards and 27 touchdowns to go with a team-best 10 rushing TDs.
“We started the Manning Award 19 years ago as a way to recognize the country’s top quarterback for the full season, including the postseason,” Archie Manning said. “I’m not sure we’ve ever had an honoree who showcased his ability and proved his worth all the way through the postseason like Stetson did this year. We’re thrilled to recognize him as this year’s Manning Award winner.”

Congrats SB4…now don’t be a dckk and refuse to talk to the media graciously about what a great honor it is to be chosen by the greatest QB family in history…
Greatest QB family in history?
Are you forgetting about the Tereshenkis???
Joe was the only one of the Tereshinski’s to play QB wasn’t he? Archie-Peyton-Eli, all QBs…and Arch too. Yep, stand by greatest QB family statement…
Ok, it was a lame joke with an implication that only I would get
It’s debatable that Joe III even played QB
No doubt the Mannings are the greatest; image if Archie had been drafted by a decent team and could have dodged the injury bug
The Sugar Bowl committee is not the Manning family.
I agree, but as the article says, the Mannings all vote as well, and we know they would never vote for the loser of the award, now would they?
Tell me again that Bennett is not a great CFB QB.
Stetson deserves the Manning. If the Heisman considered the postseason, Bennett would’ve likely won that as well. Considering the fact that Bennett is the most decorated QB of the playoff era, he should’ve won it either way.
4-time CFP Offensive MVP, no argument here…
Before the 2022 season I stated that Bennett would throw for 3,500-3,700 yards and possibly even 4,000 yards. More than one gump responded to the post with ridicule.
Bennett finished the season with 4,127 while Bryce Young finished with 3,328 yards passing.
Image what Bennett would have posted had Kirby and Monk ran up-tempo and all-gas-no-brakes for 3.5 – 4 quarters???? Games like Oregon and USCar where Bennett was pulled in the 3rd quarter, conservative game plans like the UT and UK games where Bennett was severely throttled, the cupcake games where Bennett didn’t even work up a sweat.
Joe Burrow’s record of 5,671 would still be intact but Stetson would have easily eclipsed the 5 players who posted more passing yards than he did:
Austin Reed 4746
Michael Penix Jr. 4641
Caleb Williams 4537
Drake Maye 4321
Kyle Vantrease 4243
Did he set any records for number of college seasons, quarters played, age, games started, minutes on the field? He looks like a third year grad asst. out there still wrapping up that doctoral project. And will he now finally get a shot at the next level, for heaven’s sake don’t get hurt at practice now!
