Alabama OC search: Media members speculate about possible candidates for Crimson Tide job
Alabama lost OC Bill O’Brien to the NFL ranks on Tuesday, as he officially took the offensive coordinator job for the New England Patriots.
Now Nick Saban faces difficult decisions as he replaces both coordinators ahead of the 2023 season.
As you might imagine, media members have had plenty of ideas for the offensive coordinator role. From former SEC head coaches to former NFL coaches to current NFL assistants, there are plenty of names being mentioned.
Here’s some of the reaction from media members on Twitter as to who Saban should hire to run the Alabama offense in 2023:
The defining question for Alabama this offseason: Does Nick Saban stick with status quo or continue trying to innovate?
Eagles QB coach Brian Johnson would be a *fantastic* hire after his success under Dan Mullen and no with Jalen Hurts. Jim Leonhard feels like a no-brainer.

My list of Alabama OC hires would be:
-Dan Mullen
-Kliff Kingsbury
-Ben Johnson
-Joe BradyAnd as @Eli560 suggested, let's throw Bobby Petrino on there for the #content.

Some Alabama OC thoughts:

Kliff Kingsbury
Joe Brady

Dan Mullen is my #1 choice! https://t.co/41fRq4RHLL

Jeremy Pruitt and Dan Mullen ?

If Alabama truly had its pick of the litter, Andy Ludwig would be one of my top choices. Spent four seasons in the SEC as Vandy OC too. https://t.co/UaNjA2l5SB

Who will Alabama land over the next few weeks? Fans will be watching closely to see what sort of talent Nick Saban brings to his staff ahead of the 2023 season.
Uncle Eddie and the Hamburglar!
They’re definitely not hiring anyone in your family!
Todd Grantham awaits fnckhead
3rd and Grantham! Do it Saban you coward!
Wonder how long it would take for the fistfight to erupt between those two?
Or be like Kirby and only hire those that worked with Saban, how many Bama coaches does he have on staff?? Gtfo
It just seems like either this upcoming hire or the next almost certainly will be looked at as not only a coordinator but a HC candidate in the future. Pruitt seems like a no go from the get go but you never know, so…..
Saban likes all the credit. I don’t think he could bring BRADY in and get credit. Plus he can’t hold him. Joe Brady wants to be an NFL GUY!!!!!! Not to mention he likes a Joe Burrow type and he ain’t in TUSCALOOSA!!!!!
Now Dan Mullen absolutely loves the Milroe type!!! And Saban could hire both Grantham and Mullen at the same time!
IF THEY DO WELL, SABAN PROBABLY GETS TONS OF CREDIT!!!!!!!!!
I totally hope y’all get these guys!!! They are there and Alabama needs to move quickly! How does this effect recruiting and CURRENT PLAYERS????
PS. I wonder how many additional players this could cost Alabama???? To the portal I mean. Just because fans didn’t like these coordinators, doesn’t mean players don’t like those coordinators!!!!!
Negan
Nice try Negan but it is not going to happen. Glad to see that obsession with Bama still has control of you.
Do you see how many Bama coaches Kirby has on staff?! Only wants those that worked with Saban, what does that tell you? Read Shane Beamer’s comments on Kirby degree of copying Saban, lost more assistants that anyone and still wins, and didn’t have to play 9 games in their home state like Georgia…record against Saban?? Gtfo learn some football bandwagon douche bag
We literally implemented everything Alabama did, from the weekly schedule with the coaches to the practice schedule to the weight room program to whatever,” said Beamer, now South Carolina’s head coach. “It was identical. He didn’t have to say, ‘This is what Alabama did.’ You knew it. A lot of stuff we used even had the Alabama logo on it and was copy and pasted with the Georgia logo on it.” Loser.
#BobbyP
The only thing he hasn’t done in his career is ditch two teams in one year. Make it happen.
Bringing in Pruitt would be a massive mistake. Not that he’s not a good DC, but that’s the fastest way to put your program under a microscope right now. Kingsbury wouldn’t be a terrible option but I think he’d rather have a HC job.
Please hire Dan Mullen…..please hire Dan Mullen….as someone who would like to beat Alabama every now and then, please hire Dan Mullen…
Careful…because someone fails as a head coach doesn’t mean they aren’t great in a coordinator role. See Will Muschamp. Dan Mullen is likely in that camp on the offensive side of the ball.
Oh, I know he is a good OC. But he can’t recruit (I know, it is Bama and they’ll recruit well either way). But I think Bama could do way better than Mullen as OC. If they hire him, I’d feel like it was a mediocre hire.
I agree with that.
What was it Kiffin said?
“Get your popcorn ready”
I have no way of knowing but i am sure he knew both OC DC were leaving. He knew when they left who was going to replace them.
Don’t sell Saban short.
When it comes to the OC hire, can Bama really afford to take the chance of hiring Mullen?
This is my point. With Kirby at Georgia, you know the defense will be elite. Pair that with Todd Monken and you also have one of the very best offenses in CFB.
Is Mullen really capable of matching what Monken brings to the program? Considering how Kirby’s defenses dominated Mullen’s offenses, I wonder if Mullen can, even with Bama’s talent.
DAN WILL COACH EM’ UP. HE HAS THE SCHEME!!!
I hear Saban is bringing in GabrielRTR and BamaTime and will be giving Kirby4Prez an off field position in the shower.
I heard through reliable sources that you’re the designated pivot boy. I’m sure you won’t disappoint.
Coach Klein. Look what he did for the mud dogs. Bobbie Bouche D Coordinator.
