College football AD asked about possibility of hiring Jon Gruden as head coach
University of Southern Florida Athletic Director Michael Kelly fielded questions on the potential hiring of Jon Gruden Tuesday morning.
Kelly, who has served as AD for the Bulls since 2018, probably wasn’t that question to start out his day. USF fired head football coach Jeff Scott after a 54-28 loss to Temple last Saturday.
Kelly addressed the Gruden rumors (Grumors, if you will) Tuesday morning.
Kelly asked about Gruden again, during the Q&A part. Says he won’t rule any candidate out, etc., etc….

This question likely stems from a tweet from a local radio personality tying Gruden to the job. According to the tweet, Gruden is close with USF boosters and is “interested” in the job.
We’ve heard this before. Make your own conclusion about the validity of this claim.
I spoke with 2 people very close to the @USFFootball program and also friends with Jon Gruden and I can confirm Gruden Definitely has interest in the USF job. Gruden is very close to many USF boosters. Obviously there are many hurdles to overcome politically. Thoughts? #Gruden pic.twitter.com/tSRxaGMxww

Gruden, of course, was a Super Bowl winning head coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also coached for the Oakland Raiders and more recently the Las Vegas Raiders in a 2nd stint with the program after 10 years away from coaching.
