Stetson Bennett finishes 4th in 2022 Heisman Trophy voting
Stetson Bennett, Georgia’s star quarterback who led the Bulldogs offense to an undefeated season and No. 1 in the College Football Playoff field, has finished 4th in Heisman voting. The prestigious award was given out Saturday night to USC’s Caleb Williams.
TCU’s Max Duggan came in 2nd while Ohio State’s CJ Stroud came in 3rd place.
Final order of the #Heisman vote:
1. Caleb Williams
2. Max Duggan
3. CJ Stroud
4. Stetson Bennett— The Heisman Trophy (@HeismanTrophy) December 11, 2022
Bennett, despite having an objectively amazing season, was a bit of a controversial finalist for the award. Many pointed to Bennett’s stats and style of play as more of a system quarterback that only made it because he was on the best team in the nation. Others felt Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker or Michigan’s Blake Corum earned a spot over the former walk-on.
But regardless where you stand, it’s hard to not realize the incredible season Bennett has had, one that started out strong from the very beginning. Perhaps Bennett’s best game on the year came in Georgia’s first game against No. 11 Oregon, where the senior threw for 368 yards (season high) and 2 touchdowns in a 49-3 victory.
Bennett played exceptionally well in Georgia’s SEC Championship win against LSU. He threw 4 touchdown passes against the Tigers in a runaway 50-30 victory.
