Tennessee sees veteran linebacker enter the transfer portal, per report
Tennessee is expected to lose some depth on defense as linebacker Juwan Mitchell has entered the transfer portal, according to Chris Hummer of 247Sports.
Mitchell, who transferred to Tennessee from Texas and is from Newark, New Jersey, made 43 tackles and an interception this season.
Mitchell played in 33 career games (12 at Tennessee) with 21 starts (8 at Tennessee) during his career. He missed most of the 2021 season because of a shoulder injury and was limited for much of the 2022 spring.
To close the regular season, Mitchell recorded 5 stops in the regular-season finale at Vanderbilt and averaged 6.6 tackles per game in his last 5 games. He made 6 tackles at South Carolina.
Mitchell at Texas led Texas in tackles in 2020 with 62. He also had 4.5 tackles for loss, one quarterback hurry, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery for the Longhorns defense. Mitchell also started 5 games for Texas during his first season with the program back in 2019.

Why did Mitchell leave? I’m so confused???
Wants more money. I’m all for players getting paid but maybe we go back to the old transfer you sit out a year. Slow the portal down some…. Unless you are a grad transfer

Mitchell transferred from Texas because they brought in a better transfer from Bama. Wow! It happened to him again!
I guess he thought he couldn’t compete with the LB transfer from BYU? Too bad, needed depth there. Best of luck to him, which he will need if he can’t compete at UT with their current depth.
Agree and good luck to him. Reality is you don’t bring in a 3 plus year veteran LB for a backup. That’s why he was recruited to UT. Talk was he would start before Beasley. Scratch that now!
