Georgia downs No. 22 Auburn, earns first ranked SEC win since early 2020
It’s setting up to be a potentially great week for Georgia athletics.
Georgia football takes on TCU in the National Championship in less than a week (Monday, Jan. 9). As an appetizer, the Bulldogs basketball team pulled off a huge win over No. 22 Auburn Wednesday, winning 76-64 in Athens. That’s Georgia’s first win over a ranked SEC opponent since February of 2020, when the Bulldogs knocked off No. 20 Auburn.
Senior guard Terry Roberts led the way for the Bulldogs, totaling 26 points and 2 assists. Kario Oquendo added an impressive 17 points with 4 rebounds, helping lead the Bulldogs to a 1-0 start in SEC play. Georgia has not started conference play with a win since the 2016-17 season.

Georgia is turning over a new leaf under head coach Mike White, formerly of Florida. The Bulldogs are 11-3 to start the season with respectable losses to a strong Mid-Major UAB squad, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest.
Georgia has already nearly doubled its win total from last season. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but White and the Bulldogs are chasing their first 20-win season since 2015-16 and look to be ahead of schedule so far.
The Bulldogs can build on this win this Saturday against Florida.
I posted a few weeks ago on here UGA would be in the top 25 this year and was laughed at. Coming soon to a poll near you.
When?
Never happen.
January 18th.
You mean 2/18? You’re so stupid that you can’t even get the right date troll. You’re a dreamer too.
It’s clear here your the troll.
Just more Boohoo Bama tears… That’s all…
“January 18th.”
Ok Marty.
So you think you you win your next 4 games against @Florida, Miss State, @Ole Miss, and @Kentucky? That’s what it will probably take to get ranked, but maybe just winning 3 out of 4 will do it. I won’t hold my breath.
What a great win! I haven’t seen the Dawgs play this well since a few sporadic moments under Dennis Felton or going all the way back to Tubby.
Mike White was a guy the FU ‘turds fans wanted to fire?
I don’t get it.
Good win! If AU doesn’t find some shooters soon, it is gonna be quite a different year than last year. Unfortunately, I am not sure you just find shooters in guys that have been there as long as Wendell and KD.
I have never seen so many missed shots from within 3 feet of the basket as Auburn had last night. Coach Pearl clearly gets effort out of his team, but do they not practice shots on goal? He put #24 in for a few minutes who hit a three then it was back to really good D and pitiful offense. Even Wendell is streaky as heck. And the drive the ball into 3 defenders before flopping and begging for a foul is getting old.
I’ll admit I criticized the Mike White hire but 11-3 looks good. The schedule has been pretty soft (SOS 307) AU is the first ranked team they’ve played all year. So maybe pump the brakes a bit, but heck for a while ga hasn’t been able to beat those teams consistently. That said I know a couple of kids he and his staff are recruiting, and they like him. Also UF is 7-7.
One game into the SEC schedule and White has already equaled last year’s squad’s total league victories. We’ll take it.
been meaning to tell you. nice call on arian smith for the cfp semi-final. glad you were right!
Blind squirrel and nut, but I felt the chances were pretty good. Got that same feeling about Delp Monday. We’ll see.
you weren’t alone. pretty much everyone criticized the hire.
sds’ own adam spencer rated him the worst hire of the offseason. spencer by far has the most enthusiasm and interest in bball of the sds staff and is the only one worth reading, but he whiffed on his take on white. as a side note, he also ranked golden as the best hire.
Wow, the Tigers really stunk that one up. I’ve seen worse teams turn it around, but this doesn’t look like a post season team. Zero leadership and the 2 talented freshmen have yet to show up.
You must of missed our teams the last decade or so

It’s one game, ma’am. Chill out.
It’s not one game child. If you don’t see the lack of play makers and even good guard play, then you’re blind. This team isn’t sniffing the tournament unless a lightbulb goes on for Westry and Traore.
” If you don’t see the lack of play makers and even good guard play, then you’re blind. ”
Perhaps you should replace Coach Pearl, ma’am.
Bruce has to take some blame. He constructed this roster. He was too loyal to the current guards on the roster (Zep, Wendall, KD) and didn’t pursue any in the transfer portal. Auburn’s downfall last year was poor guard play and Bruce did nothing to address it.
big win and nice step forward. glad to see that the steg was as full as it was for the sec opener.
Congrats on the win. Appears that UGA is finally on the rise. Good to see.
Meanwhile, the Starkville Smiling Dork loves his hire in Hogtown.
My Gators will be lucky to be 4-12 in conference this season. We haven’t lost 20 games in one season since the 1989-90 Don Devoe debacle of 7-21.
Great job Stricklin and Foley. Hopefully Sasse wakes up and sends them both up the road.
Like I said the other day, Any day now…Roundball Humpers to be given their Joe Lunardi creds…go Dawgs
FL’s loss has certainly been GA’s gain. Coach White quietly goes about his business, and has this team playing good D, making a few 3s and here we are. This should be fun to watch in the SEC, with all the great teams.
Wait…what? I don’t know how to handle the basketball team being decent.
