Kirby Smart issues statement on deaths of Devin Willock, Chandler LeCroy
Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs just celebrated their second national championship in a row.
But on Sunday morning, the team was struck by tragedy, as 20-year-old OL Devin Willock and 24-year-old recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy were killed in a single-car accident.
On Sunday morning after the accident, Smart issued a statement on the loss being felt by the Georgia program:

“We are all heartbroken and devastated with the loss of Devin Willock and Chandler LeCroy,” Smart’s statement reads. “Devin was an outstanding young man in every way. He was always smiling, was a great teammate and a joy to coach. Chandler was such a valuable member of our football staff and brought an incredible attitude and energy every single day. We grieve with their families for this tragic loss and will support them in every way possible.”
Willock was a member of Georgia’s 2020 recruiting class out of New Jersey. He had started 2 games at right guard for the Bulldogs during the 2022 season.
There were supposedly two other players involved, what about them? It reportedly happened at 2:45 am, what was going on? A lot of questions to be answered about this tragic situation.
One other player, Warren McClendon, was in the car and sustained minor injuries. Another staffer was in the car and she sustained serious injuries. Before asking questions, let us mourn the tragic losses and pray for the injured. Answers can come later.
Well said. Prayers for all who are hurting.
I thought Willock was in the Olin’s rotation this year. What a tragedy.
