Arkansas won a wild 55-53 triple-overtime contest against Kansas in Wednesday’s Liberty Bowl. But the Razorbacks nearly won the game in 2 OTs after their defense appeared to have stopped a potentially game-tying 2-point conversion by Jayhawks quarterback Jalon Daniels.

But defensive back Quincey McAdoo was whistled for targeting, giving the Jayhawks another try. They’d ultimately convert that one to send the game to a 3rd overtime, where the Razorbacks cashed in on their 2-point conversion before Kansas’ attempt via a trick play came up empty.

As for McAdoo, with his targeting call upheld, he was forced to leave the game and would have to sit out the 1st half of the Razorbacks’ 2023 season opener against Western Carolina. But the NCAA has reversed course and has overturned the call following an appeal by the SEC.

Razorbacks athletic director Hunter Yurachek posted the email from head of officials Steve Shaw on his Twitter account on Thursday evening:

A true freshman in 2022, McAdoo totaled 30 tackles and a sack for Arkansas, plus 2 interceptions and 4 passes defensed. He received freshman All-SEC honors for his work on the field.

While it wouldn’t have been the end of the world to have McAdoo miss the 1st half of a game against an FCS opponent like Western Carolina, the Razorbacks can take heart in the fact that he’s in the clear.
