Billy Napier’s steep challenge to return Florida to national prominence got a little more challenging on Friday when redshirt freshman cornerback Jordan Young announced on social media that he’s entering the transfer portal.

“Ever since I was a young child, it has been my absolute desire and dream to attend the University of Florida and wear the respected colors of orange and blue. As a proud Floridian and competitive athlete, it has been no greater honor,” Young wrote on Twitter.

Young arrived in Gainesville from down the road in Tampa, Florida, and was a prized member of the 2021 signing class. He played in 13 games during his now-brief UF career as a boundary and slot corner, and also had an important role on special teams.

Young had 11 total tackles, 1 pass breakup and a blocked field goal during his 2 seasons at Florida, with the blocked field goal coming in what turned out to be his last game in orange and blue in last week’s Las Vegas Bowl loss to Oregon State.

Young is Florida’s 20th scholarship player to announce plans to enter the transfer portal this offseason. UF has been particularly hit hard in the secondary, with Young already being the 5th Gators defensive back to leave the program during the postseason.
