Kirk Herbstreit goes all in on Vanderbilt beating Tennessee, says Vols are 'fighting amongst themselves'
Kirk Herbstreit did not hide his “Super Dog” pick for ESPN’s “College GameDay” show on Saturday when the ESPN personalities pick underdog teams.
This week it’s Vanderbilt, and Herbstreit added during the College Football Playoff rankings show that he will pick Vanderbilt outright to beat Tennessee.
“I’m claiming Vandy right now before you are even going to get close to that,” Herbstreit said, and added that Clark Lea has a team that is playing for bowl eligibility, which is a big deal. “Tennessee is not necessarily playing for bowl eligibility and their opportunity to get into the Playoff is gone, they’re fighting amongst themselves in the locker room, things are not good right now in Knoxville. Plus Hendon Hooker obviously has that injury. So I’ve got a weird feeling on Vandy this week.”
Rece Davis added that Herbstreit is good at picking up on vibes around teams.
Earlier in the show when the analysts discussed Tennessee’s No. 10 ranking, Greg McElroy said Tennessee should be ranked higher than No. 10 in order to be in a better bowl game. Herbstreit added, “After Vandy beats Tennessee this weekend, you won’t have to worry about that.”
Tennessee opened as a 16.5-point favorite, and the betting line has dropped to 13.5 or 14.
