Greg McElroy weighs in on Tennessee's ability to make it into the College Football Playoff
It wasn’t long ago that Tennessee stood atop of the College Football Playoff rankings but that changed when the Volunteers fell 27-13 to the Georgia Bulldogs on Nov. 5.
Now, there is still very much a path for the one-loss team to have a spot in the CFP, but there is still the chance that a rising TCU squad and USC could keep the Vols right there on the edge at the end of the day. College football analyst Greg McElroy recently weighed in on the team’s potential ability to make its way in.
“I think Tennessee is in a position where they could definitely get into the College Football Playoff, but I don’t think they would get in over the likes of a one-loss USC, Pac-12 champion and/or a one or zero loss TCU Big 12 champion.”
McElroy says he understands the notion that Tennessee may be favored over both of those teams if it were to play at a neutral site, but that it comes down to the committee, which may not err on the side of taking Tennessee over both of those teams.
It will be interesting to see how the CFP picture continues to evolve heading down the final stretch of the season.
