Former Alabama player, assistant rejoins Crimson Tide staff after season with Oregon

A familiar face is back on staff at Alabama. Jake Long has returned to UA after spending a season with Dan Lanning at Oregon.

Long has updated his Twitter profile to reflect his status as an Alabama staffer. As a graduate assistant at Oregon, Long worked with the defense in his season with the Ducks.

Nick Kelly of the Tuscaloosa News reports that Long is returning to the Crimson Tide in a defensive analyst role. Long is plenty familiar with UA as a former player and coach. He was a walk-on defender at Alabama from 2013-16. During that time, current Oregon head coach Dan Lanning was a grad assistant at Alabama for the 2015 season. After that season, Lanning landed an on-field coaching opportunity in Memphis.

After playing at Alabama, Long got into coaching as a student assistant in 2017 and graduate assistant from 2018-20. He was an Alabama analyst for the 2021 season before going to Oregon to be a graduate assistant.
