Alabama basketball hits historic low in blowout loss at Oklahoma

Alabama basketball played a game that featured a bit of history Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, it is not the kind of history the Tide were hoping for after rising to a No. 2 ranking on the latest AP Poll.

Alabama was clicking while riding a 9-game winning streak into an SEC/Big 12 Challenge road game at Oklahoma. Unfortunately, the Sooners put a stop to that in dominant fashion, crushing the Crimson Tide with a 93-69 win in Norman.

No matter how you look at that 24-point loss, a bit of history is involved for Alabama. CBS Sports initially noted that the 24-point loss was the largest margin of defeat ever for a top-2 team in a loss to an unranked team.

Meanwhile, ESPN Stats & Info has the 24-point defeat to an unranked team as the third largest by an AP top-2 team. Either way, that’s a disappointing result after Alabama was making a serious case to be the No. 1 team in the country prior to Saturday.

On the latest AP Poll, Alabama received 23 first-place votes. That mark trailed only top-ranked Purdue with the Boilermakers claiming 39 first-place votes.

Needless to say, it’s likely the Tide will experience a brief stay in the No. 2 slot when the latest AP Top 25 drops on Monday.

        • We won 11 games dingleberry. UGa basketball winning 1 sec game last year and having the worst record in sec history what a joke. Oh and UT won by the way

        • Learn how to use the comment section’s reply function so you can try that illogical comeback attempt at the right person. I know you’re a product of Georgia education but c’mon. I recognize you guys feel left out from January to August so would it make you feel included if we talked women’s gymnastics?

        • At least UGA can say they've made it to the final four. And they've also won a Natty in baseball. UT has never accomplished either of those. So much for that.

      • He’s on here instead of watching his embarrassment play USCjr. Thank God for Mike White. He’ll keep that program in their proper place at the bottom of the conference for years.

        • UT is the biggest embarrassment in CFB of the last 25 years. Even the HC that won the last NC 25 years ago stabbed his legend boss in the back to get the job.

        • Imagine being so irrelevant that you’re on a different team’s article discussing relevancy in a different sport. This is why Georgia fans are so great. Never change.

        • Dawglb must know very little about sports the way he vainly tries slapping at Tennessee. (Seemingly, every sport too! )

He--or she--I'm betting on the latter--shows just how ignorant and classless much of their fanbase is.

Oh! Speaking of classless, congratulations Dawg Nation! Your poster boy, Stetson Flaming Bennett (unusual middle name but it's ok) just got arrested last night for Public Intoxication!

How much of an A-list A-hole do you have to be to get arrested (by Georgia police too!) after just bringing home a national championship??!!

    • Misery actually contributed to the sec? How about win a natty in something. You're the only in the sec without a natty in a sport while competing in the sec.

      • Incorrect, there are lots of SEC schools who haven't won a natty in something while we've been in the SEC.

        • They've all won something at one point or another. You don't bring anything to table like that sorry excuse of state.

        • But you weren't talking about at one point or another, you clearly defined it while Mizzou was in the SEC. How about you guys actually get into the Big12/SEC challenge sometime, or I don't know, an SEC Champ Game in football. Haven't seen you guys in one of those while we've been in the conference.

        • Bruh we're always, always dominant in wrestling and gymnastics. But it doesn't matter, the only people who bring up national championships outside of Football, Basketball and Baseball are teams teams like USC jr. Also, maybe south carolina should get a major city and a singular fortune 500 company before it tries to talk smack on the fourth most populous state in the conference.

    • Volman, your wrong as always. Bennett wasn’t arrested in Georgia he was arrested in Dallas. Typical UT fan.

    • These are what I call healthy losses. It's best to have a game like this before the tournament so you can see what issues you have that lay dormant. No one likes to lose but and these losses are unavoidable for any team. But you can learn some things, as in what not to do and where your vulnerable. TN after Colorado found those things out and it's ever-changing tweeks throughout the season. Bama still imo, a top 5 team.

  • I don’t know. Any team can run into a buzz saw on a nite they just weren’t ready to play. It happens. This one game won’t matter as long as they don’t let it linger. I expect oats will have em ready and wouldn’t want to be the next team they face. You don’t get to #2 by being the team that played yesterday.

  • Well this was baffling. Just looked like Bama had no answers for the big men of OU. UK loss wasn't as surprising.

  • This is the best Mizzou team and coach in a few years. They are packing Mizzou arena and playing exciting basketball. They're also not relying on one player to do it.
