Jaden Rashada, 5-star Florida QB commit, not yet enrolled at UF with other early signees
Jaden Rashada, the crown jewel of Florida’s Class of 2023, has yet to enroll in Gainesville, according to 247Sports.
Rashada is currently listed in the Florida student directory based on being accepted due to his academic merits. This is a distinction from being enrolled at the university. The cause for concern around Florida fans stems from other early enrollees moving in on campus.
The 5-star quarterback hailing from California committed to Florida after flipping from Miami. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Rashada is deemed by the 247Sports Composite to be the nation’s No. 7 quarterback, the No. 6 prospect from California, and the No. 56 recruit in the nation.
Rashada was slated to enroll on campus after participating in the Under Armour All-American Game, which was held on Jan. 3 in Orlando, according to Florida coach Billy Napier.
“He’s coming down to play in the All-Star Game here soon in the state and will come right over,” Napier said at the time. “So look forward to working with him.”
247Sports has tabbed Rashada as a first round pick, with his player comparison as Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff. The other quarterbacks on Florida’s roster include Wisconsin transfer Graham Mertz, sophomore Jack Miller and redshirt freshman Max Brown.
Rumor is, the ‘turd collective is broke, they can’t pay him what they promised, and the kid’s father has already hired a lawyer.
Seems like the FU boosters didn’t like what they saw from Sunbelt Billy and roped-off access to the money tree.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Your dentist has some connects at UF?
find a job
Find a team that matters.
25+ years, no SEC Title. I remember when Hillbillies made fun of our 20 year SEC Title drought.
Hey moron, not that I’m happy about it but it’s been 14 years without an SEC championship not 25+. Get your facts straight or learn simple math or both
Again, find a job. Please actually do something productive in life.
Corch
All seriousness aside what is the obsession over uf with you ? Did you grow up in the 90s and 00s and endure all that pain uf caused uga? If so I can see why you act the way you do . Was just curious what caused you to be like you are .. Georgia won back to back titles and your hear pretending you know more that Napier on his own player .. making up lies is never cool bud.
Congrats on the back to back titles
My apologies for the spelling errors in the above post ..
It’s funny how what you call obsession is just an example of the same kind of hate The Ol’ Bourbon Coach feels about us. My FU hate is 24/7/365.
The Ol’ Bourbon Coach feels the same way about us. Shouldn’t you be willing to hate us as much as your greatest coach does? I guarantee Kirby hates y’all as much as I do, so why isn’t the same for you?
Unless maybe Kirby has just beaten you down to the point where you just intuitively know your place now.
Hate is one thing bud .. I agree with you
to a point as it is hard for me to pull for uga in anything . You referenced spurrier and he to Kirby is a good analogy on the schools feelings to each other . My question is why do you continue to troll any article on Florida ? It doesn’t matter what the story is you seem
to be the first
to comment and then add your own opinion as if is factual .
Florida has a long way to go to catch up with uga as do all the schools in the conference . i just am trying to
see why you feel
you need to troll all articles about the gators ( you and few other uga fans ) instead of enjoy the success your team is having
And therein lies the index to the psychiatric issue, 8115.
If I weren’t dealing with this dmmmm Border patrol issue I’d same something snarky…
(BGHO)…take that!
Now that’s classic Leghumper! Good to have you back, bud.
And by the way, let me add to the congratulations on the title game – awesome display of talent. Make it a three-peat!
First poster is the uga jackass.
SHCOKER
What a DA remark. There’s more $$$ in the Gator Collective than most schools could ever dream about.
The program needs to get out in front of this and be very candid. This would be a crushing PR nightmare if this fell through
You haven’t seen fell through yet but it’s coming.
He’s probably seeing what football fans other than Florida fans are seeing. A used car salesman, trying to peddle an outdated model offense with a new can of Armorbillyall.
You are such a closet uga fan lake life .. are you negans cousin ?
Nope, I believe he is a Gator, but a very childish one indeed.
Man you are one of the biggest fraking idiots around here, up there with Corch and the rest of those Morons. In fact worse than them cause they root for their own team.
Napier is the reason Rashada signed his LOI and flipped to us. Whatever problem there is now has to do with NIL and the collective
Yes gagator, that’s why he originally committed to Miami, because their program isn’t a disaster at all.
You know what….seeing posters like you every time something goes awry may make anyone 2nd guess coming to play for our spoiled base. You cats are incredible…
?????
Certainly seems there is poor communication between Rashada and UF. When does the spring semester start at UF? Doesn’t seem like there is much time for him to show up at this point.
I’m not sure the poor communication is so much between Rashada and UF, as between UF and its NIL collective.
Something happened on the NIL side of that agreement to sign on with UF. The kid did sign his scholarship LOI and was academically accepted by the university. Now this goes down, which can only have something to do with the NIL side of that deal and the university “should” have nothing to do with it.
I suppose they could iron things out in time for Rashada to still enroll for spring. TP guys are still committing this week for spring starts at UF and elsewhere.
If it’s not worked out this week, then we’re looking at him enrolling in the summer. If it doesn’t happen by then, we’re gonna hear from the lawyers.
Thanks for the info. Our NIL collectives seem like a liability these days.
Poor Negan is so confused it’s really sad. First he says the collective is broke and can’t pay, then in the next sentence he realizes how ridiculous that sounds with all the money we have so he switches saying the collective is mad at the Coach and will not pay. Finally he tries to draw an analogy between SOS’s feelings about UGA and his feelings about Florida once again attempting to assert the HBC’s penchant for bourbon when in truth and fact anyone who knows Orr knows he’s a beer drinker since his days in Hawgtown. The missives he posts are becoming increasingly delusional.
As far as the article itself I believe StlGator is probably pretty close. My take is that Florida has in essence “drafted” this player through the recruiting process and his signing a LOI. Although it’s not supposed to play this role the NIL agreement is analogous to the rookie contract of the player and for whatever reason(s) he is now attempting to renegotiate this agreement. Likely someone got in his ear at the All-Star game. Given the utter lack of regulations by the NCAA and laws by the various state legislatures on NIL the universities, collectives, lawyers and players will likely be ironing out these issues in the years ahead and make for great theater.
Someone help me out. Once a player and a school enter into a LOI are there conditions by which that agreement can be rescinded either unilaterally or by both the parties. Any penalties should a player decide to not honor the agreement?
In effect, the LOI is a 1-year contract between the university and the student athlete. It has T&C’s and, once signed, binds both sides to abide by its terms.
Rashada can withdraw from UF with UF’s consent, which might happen IF the NIL cooperative is not abiding by their agreement. On the other hand, if he’s trying to renegotiate his NIL deal, UF could insist on his honoring the one-year LOI and go portal in May. Not really a desirable situation for either side.
Transfer out with UF consent happened in 2019 when Chris Steele, a 5-star CB, transferred out after a s e x scandal in May involving his roommate Jalon Jones, who also transferred out, both before their first season at UF.
mrtruth and StLouis….yes, in the day and age, our NIL seems to be an issue
If an athlete doesn’t honor his NLI he is restricted from playing at any other D1 or D11 school for that season.
Rumor circulating that someone didn’t pay. A pac team is paying more
At face value that could be taken as just another snarky comment from other than a Gator, but there is probably more truth to that than most realize.
The rumor is coming from Alligator Alley 247 from some of the most plugged-in ‘turd fans.
Corch is correct on this one, seems our NIL collective is somewhat disfunctional
That may be so and I wouldn’t doubt it, but don’t take the word of a troll who has a feces fetish.
This coming from what source exactly???
There’s also rumors a starting player is also having similar issues
Sugar…yup, hearing that too.
Well that explains why Palley hasn’t delivered my Rashada For Heisman sign yet…rat bahstahd!
Where is Palley btw, Ethiopia again? I was expecting his congrats on another Richt2.0 season…
You won’t get any congrats from me snarky puppy. While I’m glad we have another SEC NC and more evidence of our conference’s superiority, I would have been just as glad if you guys laid an egg and lost
I can say with complete confidence that we don’t know what we don’t know.
Best comment I have seen on this situation.
Vintage, classic Nash. And the ground truth.
The problem Nash is what we do know can’t be explained in any way to make the situation look good for the Gators.
Either we have dysfunctional NIL cooperatives on the one hand, or a gold digging recruit at the most important position in team sports on the other.
If the former, Rashada won’t be the last guy to pull back, or out. If the latter, we have a pure mercenary at the most important developmental position in sports.
If he is a mercenary, imagine how much he’ll demand next year, once the nutrition and S&C programs put 25 pounds on his skinny frame. If he doesn’t get what he wants, he’ll just portal back to California, where the money flows like water and Riley and Kelly will be waiting with open arms.
“Either we have dysfunctional NIL cooperatives on the one hand, or a gold digging recruit at the most important position in team sports on the other.”
AND…both scenarios are just as likely, unfortunately for us. This is frustrating for sure.
We already know he’s a mercenary, based upon his path through Coral Gables.
What concerns me is his perception of having to sit, learn and gain weight in 2023, then compete with Lagway — who may be competitive as a true freshman — in 2024. Completely separate issue from NIL.
Legitimate concern, but that’s something he should’ve taken into account BEFORE he signed on in late December. Lagway committed on December 7th.
My personal take, based on timing, is that someone got in his (or his dad’s) ear at the Allstar Game last week and made him very unhappy with his NIL deal. Everyone was on the same song-sheet going into that game.
Granted, I’m not the internet expert that many on this board profess to be, but I’ll just draw on my 60-plus years of being a Florida Gator fan and offer up the following scenerios.
1. At the 11th hour and 59th minute, some other rogue program, such as Miami, or a West Coast/California school…where they pay NIL to high schoolers….”showed Rashada the money”….and UF and or their “collective” was either unable or unwilling to “pony up”! In this day of “pay to play”, this is the most likely case, which is disturbing, because he and his family spent the past few months professing their love for the Gators, and assured that Rashada would bring the 4th National Championship and/or 4th Heisman to Gainesville! Makes you curious?
2. UF(Coach Napier)either directly or otherwise, promised Rashada the starting QB job on Day 1, and when UF signed Graham Mertz, along with Jack Miller and two other quarterbacks on the roster…the implication was that he would now compete for the job…our boy got cold feet! If that’s the case, that’s the worst possible effect of NIL, allowing the $$$ to determine who plays, and shame on Napier for opening that “Pandora’s Box!”….if so, the recruits and their agents now coach the team!
3. Although UF and Rashada’s people deny this, there’s a problem with the Admissions Office, but privacy laws being what they are, we’ll never know unless Rashada says so(or not)! Being a retired high school counselor, I’m tossing in a bet here, also!
Finally, whether or not Rashada plays for UF, the program will go on! One gained or lost recruit does not determine your program, unlike the opinions of many of this forum’s “experts”!
Roger that foodman!
Also, I’ll be the first to admit that “I don’t know what I don’t know”, but this an awfully strange turns of events which makes nobody look good!
Also, with Rashada and his attorney suing UF(???), any used car dealership will tell you that “verbal agreements mean nothing”, just FYI…
Good analysis Foodman. Your Point 1 and 3 may definitely be in play. Point 1 more so than Point 3, since academic admission issues are quite common and may be easily dismissed by Rashada at any time as administrative issues to be quickly sorted out (or not.) The current silence from that camp speaks volumes.
Your Point 2 is a non-starter based on everything we know about Napier’s approach to competition and his resulting track record at UF. He let it be known to all players from Day 1 that all positions were open to competition to all players, down to true freshmen. That led to several true freshmen burning their RS and winning starting jobs, or high number of reps, relegating many upper class-men to the bench. That led to the mass portal exodus of Mullen recruits we just witnessed. Etienne pushing out two older guys is a perfect example of this.
That philosophy works both ways. No 5-star phenom will be guaranteed a starting job without winning it in practice. Again, Etienne rode the bench early in the season and slowly worked his way into more plays on the field as the season progressed. Rashada would have been told he’s expected to put 20 pounds on his skinny frame and compete in practice before seeing the field, even in mop-up duty. That’s the Napier way.
I’m hoping that you’re correct on my “point #2″….I would hope that Napier wouldn’t be that reckless or desperate to promise a job to someone. I’m beginning to put more stock into my “point #3”, going back to my career as a high school guidance counselor who dealt with quite a few college bound athletes……Given that Rashada was to be an early entry, did he totally complete his high school credits successfully? A college can offer a “letter of intent”, but it’s dependant on the kid passing everything successfully prior to entering college….could be just a simple snafu, or a major foulup, all of which are covered by federal privacy issues! Or, it could indeed be “Door #1″…more money offered at the last second! Whatever the case, it’s what my late mother would have called a “hot mess!”
These are excellent, in-depth speculations, but I still wonder, as I did at first blush, if it’s not something as simple as the youngster having a case of the flu or something similar. In other words, the old adage in clinical medicine: “When you hear hoofbeats, look first for a horse and not a zebra”.
One thing for sure, Napier knows the skinny and he’s not saying anything yet.
Napier can’t say anything Neal. Whatever he could say now wouldn’t help resolve the situation and may even be prohibited by privacy laws.
I know that, but that wasn’t my point.
Excellent observations Foodman. Almost a Brock Berlin scenario.
