Nate Oats offered comments on Monday afternoon about the situation that led to Darius Miles being removed from the Alabama men’s basketball team.

Miles and another man were arrested and charged with capital murder following an early-morning shooting on Sunday in Tuscaloosa. Miles, later on Sunday, was kicked off the Alabama team.

Oats opened the press conference with condolences.

“I just want to start today by offering our deepest condolences to the family of Jamea Jonae Harris. Our sympathies to Jamea’s family following this unimaginable loss. This is a really difficult situation,” he said.

Oats was asked if other players were involved.

“It’s an ongoing investigation,” he said. “Our entire remaining team is traveling to Nashville and will be available to play in the game tomorrow.”

In an emotional press conference, Oats reflected on what he thought about personally.

“I’ve got 3 daughters,” he said. “It went through my mind how easily it could have been one of mine. Tough situation.”
