Hayes: Nick Saban knows the end is here. Just look at his final, desperate ballot
Willybob I’ve had the experience of 35 years of working with numerous individuals who have JD’s, MBA’s, MD’s and PHD’s from some of the top universities in the country. I can tell you one thing I’ve learned from this experience. The level of one’s education doesn’t equate to the level of one’s intelligence. So a rancher in the red state of Montana with a high school degree can be much more intelligent than a lawyer with a Harvard degree in the blue state of New York.
Excellent observations Foodman. Almost a Brock Berlin scenario.
Someone help me out. Once a player and a school enter into a LOI are there conditions by which that agreement can be rescinded either unilaterally or by both the parties. Any penalties should a player decide to not honor the agreement?
Poor Negan is so confused it’s really sad. First he says the collective is broke and can’t pay, then in the next sentence he realizes how ridiculous that sounds with all the money we have so he switches saying the collective is mad at the Coach and will not pay. Finally he tries to draw an analogy between SOS’s feelings about UGA and his feelings about Florida once again attempting to assert the HBC’s penchant for bourbon when in truth and fact anyone who knows Orr knows he’s a beer drinker since his days in Hawgtown. The missives he posts are becoming increasingly delusional.
As far as the article itself I believe StlGator is probably pretty close. My take is that Florida has in essence “drafted” this player through the recruiting process and his signing a LOI. Although it’s not supposed to play this role the NIL agreement is analogous to the rookie contract of the player and for whatever reason(s) he is now attempting to renegotiate this agreement. Likely someone got in his ear at the All-Star game. Given the utter lack of regulations by the NCAA and laws by the various state legislatures on NIL the universities, collectives, lawyers and players will likely be ironing out these issues in the years ahead and make for great theater.
Oh my the sky is falling the sky is falling. Everyone stop listening to all the haters, remember we are the flagship university in the most talent rich state in the country with a coach who understands that as well and is recruiting well. He said have patience and the quality of the type individuals he seems to be signing bodes well for the future. Next year will be another.500 season, give or take a game with year 3 returning to challenging for championships. Those of us who have been around since before the 60’s know the meaning of patience and rewards.
Ha dodged that shutout bullet ?
Correct UT wasn’t a rival in 1979 but Auburn was and we lost to them thus we lost to all of our rivals that season.
Sorry Mr. Truth but Charlie Pell lost to every rival in 1979 when he went 0-10-1 his first season.
Looks like our longest streak without being shutout is in danger of coming to an end.
What a classless post. I’ve never been a Trump supporter but have many friends who support him. That doesn’t mean I don’t include them in my circle of friends or recognize them as fellow Americans. You personify much of what’s wrong with our country today with your intolerant rhetoric.
My condolences to all the MS Bulldogs. Your coach was truly a breath of fresh air whose mind and wit were unsurpassed in his profession. I’m sure all that had the privilege to have played for him are better men as a result. May he rest in peace.
Billy’s and his team played the complete game today………..from coaching decisions to all 3 units they were completely horrible. Makes me wonder if they were all down on Broadway last night. Very disappointed in everyone today.
Stupid money doesn’t make money Billy
Rat poison can come from places other than the press. If you find it and can get rid of it that’s what needs to be done. I wish the young man well and respect that Napier continues to put the team first not the individual players who might be stars. Very different from some of our previous coaches.
Some good comments.Napier reminded me of another coach we had a few years ago who after a loss would often say, “we didn’t do a very good job of coaching them up”. That same coach was also fond of pointing out that according to the rankings of recruiting classes Georgia had better players yet his teams beat Georgia all but once.
.Between the transfer portal and NIL it’s a different world as compared to 10 years ago. In order for a program to be successful the ability to adapt will determine whether you succeed or not.So far Napier has shown both good and not so good traits. He does seem intelligent but then again so did Mullen. Thankfully he doesn’t seem as arrogant as Mullen.
The rest of this season and his results in restocking the program through recruiting and the portal will tell us a lot about where we are headed.
The fact this team fought back today is encouraging. The coach I was referring to above got his head handed to him up in Knoxville early in his tenure with many pundits saying at the time that he was in over his head. He proved them wrong. Napier deserves the full opportunity to show if he can do the job.
Agree that was a classless remark. I guess we all have fans who are idiots. Congratulations to the Dawgs. Unfortunately Kirby Smart has built a program that may be around for years to come. Enjoy the ride.
BTW I’ve noticed a proclivity of both you and MD to post on other teams articles on an almost daily basis. Pitiful
So going out of conference and out of state to play a program that’s down, like Texas, who you almost lost to proves what exactly?. I believe the last time Bama went to an out of conference campus we’re the years they played Duke and Penn State which was a decade ago.
If you really want to be anonymous don’t post from the same IP address………besides that what’s your point considering since that time we’ve played a schedule that’s consistently ranked in the top ten in difficulty and have played more schools with a NC over that period of time than any other college in the FBS?
Mountain Dog FSU NC 2013
Jacksonville has long been known as the capital of South Georgia.
2018 and 2017 played Michigan in Atlanta and Dallas respectively. Will play Utah next season at Utah. While not out of state they play FSU every year and Miami on a regular basis.
Since 1980 the universities of the states of Alabama and Florida have accounted for 20 National Championships (Florida 11 and Alabama 9) Given the strength of the Miami and FSU programs there was little need for Florida to travel OOC to face quality opponents.
Mountain Dog I’m just saying Kirby’s stated reasons for moving the game are illusory as evidenced by the other two rivalries that are played in Dallas yet you don’t hear any of those coaches complaining over the years about the recruiting issue. He has another agenda here and I’m sure it’s a good one but not one he wants to make public.
Half my family is from South Georgia (3 cousins played and started for the Dawgs) and I attended high school in Rome so my Georgia ties run deep. As such I’m very familiar with one of the main reasons why Jacksonville was originally chosen which was it gave the South Georgia Dawg fans a annual game that wasn’t such a long drive to watch their team play. That continues to be the case not to mention how the merchants and hospitality industry in Brunswick/ Golden Isles benefit.
As far as playing the game in Atlanta I will admit I’m biased because I’m from North Florida. However, show me which beaches the fans would stay at, the world famous golf courses they would play, where they would dock their boats and the location of RV City? Move the game anywhere else and it just becomes another rivalry losing the luster and appeal that this game has today. ( Don’t get me wrong as the North Georgia mountains certainly are beautiful but putting the game in Atlanta or Athens isn’t like being in the mountains).
I have been to Birmingham, Athens and Atlanta for many games (SEC Championship 13 times with a 7-6 record compared to Georgia’s pitiful 3-6 SEC Championship record and the 1995 debacle in Athens included) The best trip was in 95 because we were staying in the mountains and the leaves were changing. However, it just wouldn’t mean more being anywhere but Jacksonville.
In closing I bet if you could ask Larry Munson or Lewis Grizzard if they would want the game moved they would both say “hell no” because they knew how much “ all those Dawg People” enjoyed staying in those condominiums here and up in St. Simons and Jekyll Island for 4 days eating, drinking, partying and yes even destroying property after a win on the way to a NC! Move the game and both the Gator and Dawg fans will only be able to tell their grandchildren what they have missed.
Yes biggest game for Texas and Oklahoma is played in Dallas….so is Arkansas and A&M. So dumb right! Kirby has a hidden agenda about moving the game and it has nothing to do with recruiting. I suspect he realizes Florida will once again become relevant and playing that team every other year in Athens will give him the best chance of winning notwithstanding the 1995 debacle in Athens. Truth is he’s probably correct.
I’m not use to posting on other teams articles but am making an exception on this issue. First i will admit I’m biased about this game staying in Jacksonville in part because I’m a native of North Florida and as such have many fond memories of the weekend over my 68 years. Although I’m a Gator my Georgia roots run deep having attended high school in Rome, Georgia and my mother”s family being from South Georgia with several cousins having played for UGA. I have nothing but respect for the UGA fan base and its program with the exception of Noxious Negan!
The WLOCP is a tradition that is enjoyed by both the players and fans. The area from the Golden Isles to St. Augustine are beginning to be flooded right now with fans benefitting businesses in both South Georgia and North Florida creating an atmosphere of a holiday bowl. Almost all the players who have participated in the game describe it as one of the highlights of their playing career ( I attended the games in both Gainesville and Athens and the atmosphere wasn’t even close to Jacksonville)
Kirby Smart is an excellent coach and recruiter but his stated reason for moving the game doesn’t make sense and even if it did it could be resolved. He claims that it’s neutral location puts him at a recruiting disadvantage because under NCAA rules they can’t “host” players at their biggest game while other schools aren’t hamstrung in this manner. I believe he recruits against Arkansas, Texas A&M , Oklahoma and Texas for many star players. Each of those schools plays a neutral site game every year against their biggest rival in Dallas (Red River Rivalry since 1932 and The Southwest Showdown since 2009.) Yet none of the coaches at these 4 schools have raised the “recruiting” issue about the neutral site restrictions and lobbied to move the rivalry to home and home.
According to my understanding the rules now allow the designated home team at neutral site games to provide tickets to recruits but cannot act as “Hosts” which limits interaction with the player amongst other restrictions. A school is only allowed to officially host a recruit once according to my understanding. That is known as an official visit which includes contact with the recruit and expenses beside just a ticket being covered. If playing these neutral site games is such a hindrance to recruiting wouldn’t it make sense for these 6 schools to work to amend the rules rather than destroy the tradition as Kirby Smart proposes. Of course that’s assuming that the recruiting issue is the real reason for lobbying to move the game to home and home.
Hopefully a solution will be forthcoming that will address Coach Smart’s concerns and keep the game in Jacksonville. I’m sure with Texas and Oklahoma soon joining the league it would be nice to have 3 neutral site rivalries in the SEC. In the meantime I hope for a good game this weekend although I’m fearful that’s not likely. In closing I would also like to remind Negan that Coach Smart is currently 4-2 in this series which is a long way from 12-1 as was the HBC and over the past 68 years of my lifetime the series is 37-30-1.
Yes Corch rivalry games do mean something especially neutral site ones like the WLOCP in Jacksonville. That’s why it should stay right where it has been since 1933! CBS has recognized that for years so maybe it’s time Kirby also recognized the tradition in place.
Rocky I was referring to your comment on the game never being in doubt…….. I guess you would have said the same thing about the game in 2017 until Franks completed that Hail Mary. Ooops!!!!! As for Richardson he’s still a work in progress and was at times very good while at others looked like what he is…..a very gifted athlete with very limited on field experience. See you in Hawgtown next year.
Rocky you need to put the cork back in that jug of shine of yours it’s definitely making you a little delusional. Having said that Tennessee was the better team yesterday and are to be congratulated.
Napier is spot on by recognizing that the best chance to win today was to be aggressive in his play calling. The players responded by playing their hearts out. I hope he can continue to inspire that type of effort for the remainder of the season.
