John Calipari comments on Texas coaching rumor
John Calipari and Kentucky are struggling on the basketball court so far this season.
The Wildcats are just 10-5 and were blown out at Alabama on Saturday.
Big Blue Nation has high expectations and many UK fans are wondering if Calipari is still the right man for the job.
To be clear, there’s no chance that Calipari is on the proverbial “hot seat.”
The less-than-stellar results of late coupled with fan unrest, however, has some wondering if Calipari would be interested in replacing Chris Beard at Texas.
Beard was terminated late last week after a domestic violence arrest last month, and the Longhorns are in the market for a new basketball coach.
And one thing’s for sure when it comes to Texas; its athletic department has deep pockets and can make a run at a high-profile replacement.
Could that be Calipari?
The Kentucky coach was asked about the Texas opening on his radio show Monday night and offered up just about exactly what you’d expect from a coach being linked to other jobs during the season.
“I haven’t talked to anybody,” Calipari said.

Calipari and the Wildcats will look to get back in the win column at home Tuesday night against South Carolina.
Hey Cal, the winters are a lot nicer in TX… just sayin.
To be clear, I’m ready for a change. Whatever that looks like. If Cal could figure it out and turn the clock back to 2010-2015, I’m fine with that as well. But the status quo is not working. When Pitino took over the program, I was proud watching the kids compete even if the wins didn’t come right away. There was just a pride about wearing the uniform. But the uninspired play I see currently is pretty off putting. Watching a kid like Stetson Bennet in the NC game last night is the kind of fire you’d like to see from the players. We are missing the intangibles right now. Cal’s ego rubs off on the players and they don’t seem to understand what it takes to be hungry and win games. I could go on and on and on….
Cal is a scumbag. He will take his recruiting class with him. I’m not sure I would follow him if I was a recruit he clearly can’t coach
Lots of rich people in Texas who could make sure you get a real nice salary, Cal, and you’d be a lot closer to the California fruitcakes that are more your speed.
