Arik Gilbert, former Georgia WR/TE, reveals B1G transfer commitment
Arik Gilbert is on the move again. The Georgia transfer tight end will continue his career in the Big Ten. Gilbert has committed to joining Matt Rhule’s Nebraska program.
Gilbert began his career at LSU. In 2020, he earned Freshman All-SEC recognition. In 8 games, all starts, Gilbert recorded 35 catches for 368 yards and 2 touchdowns.
After the 2020 season, Gilbert entered the NCAA transfer portal. He originally committed to Florida, but backed off that pledge and landed at Georgia.
Gilbert was away from the Bulldogs during their 2021 national championship season. He was back with the team in 2022, but made just 3 appearances during the season, recording 2 catches for 16 yards. Gilbert had a 4-yard touchdown catch in UGA’s win over Vanderbilt.
Out of Marietta (Georgia), Gilbert was a 5-star tight end prospect in the 2020 recruiting class. Georgia’s online 2022 roster lists Gilbert as a 6-5, 248-pound wide receiver, but his bio notes he saw action during the season “as a reserve TE.”

I truly hope this kid is successful. All the talent in the world, but can never seem to put the mental side together. I’m not judging him, I don’t know his life or his situation.
Good luck to Arik. I hope he overcomes his issues and reaches his potential.
Ok, this is his second transfer and he hasn’t graduated yet, LSU to GA to Nebraska. Does he have to sit out a year or no?
Don’t forget the four weeks he was committed to UF after leaving LSU. Had to re-enter the portal and everything. Then he landed at UGA.
He’ll have to apply for a medical/hardship waiver, which the NCAA hands out like candy now. New guidelines issued this week appear to tighten up those requirements, but I expect it’ll be pretty easy for him.
Got it, thanks MD
Unfortunately, the bet would probably be even on if he ever makes it on the field. Maybe he will get himself straight.
I wish Arik well, but I’m honestly glad he’s someone else’s project now. The upside is tremendous, but I can’t imagine that he’ll find a more supportive environment than he had in Athens for two years.
I agree. CKS and the entire athletic dept. always seemed very supportive. I’m amazed (but glad) we haven’t heard more about the nature of his issues, but it did always seem like the staff had his best interests at the top.
I wouldn’t be surprised if UGA encouraged him to find another gig if he wanted to play (just a guess).
Anyway, do hope it works out for him.
Arik to Nebraska huh…He’ll love that weather in December thru April. He’ll transfer again guaranteed. He just seems to be bad news wherever he
is. A true waste of elite talent.
