Lane Kiffin responds to report that he is set to leave Ole Miss for Auburn
Lane Kiffin is obviously a frequent Twitter user, but the Ole Miss head coach took time out of his Monday night to give a clear rebuttal to a report connecting him to the vacant Auburn job.
As you can see below, Jon Sokoloff, the sports director at WCBI-TV (which serves Starkville), tweeted on Monday evening that sources had told him that Kiffin would step down on Friday after the Egg Bowl to take the job at Auburn.
BREAKING: #OleMiss HC Lane Kiffin plans to step down as the Rebels coach Friday and head to Auburn to become the Tigers next head coach, according to sources
Sources say the Tigers haven’t officially offered the job to anyone yet.
So Lane to Auburn is happening. Story soon.

Just over an hour later, Kiffin responded, criticizing Sokoloff’s sources and debunking the report:
That’s news to me Jon. ?♂️. Nice sources ???? https://t.co/P8rdpxEk0p

To be clear, that technically doesn’t mean that Kiffin has completely ruled himself out of the running at Auburn. But even if he was hired there, it’s unlikely that he’d accept the job on Friday, the day before Tigers interim head coach Cadillac Williams leads his team in the Iron Bowl against Alabama.
Either way, it’s set to be an interesting next 7 days as the Tigers look to reel in their man — whoever it is.
