Nate Oats to Texas? ESPN's Jimmy Dykes discusses possibility during Alabama's win over Kentucky
Nate Oats has the Alabama Crimson Tide poised to move into the top 5 of the AP Poll next week after Saturday’s blowout win over Kentucky in Tuscaloosa.
The Texas Longhorns recently fired coach Chris Beard as he faces allegations for domestic violence, leaving the premier job open.
Could Texas be in the mix to hire Oats away from Alabama? During Saturday’s game between the Crimson Tide and Wildcats, ESPN analyst Jimmy Dykes said Oats would be his first call if he were Texas:
Dykes: "He's the young, aggressive, the offensive-minded he has right now — he has built Alabama into a situation where the basketball team is ranked higher than the football team. That's all you've got to put on your resume. He's that good."

Alabama might not let anything like that happen. The Crimson Tide have plenty of money to keep Oats in Tuscaloosa, so we’ll see what the rumor mill brings.
For now, though, Oats has Alabama looking like the best team in the SEC.
Everyone always wants Bama’s coaches and assistants. Texas needs to look at Eric Musselman at Arky too. He is equally as good as Oats.
Bama has a new basketball stadium in the works so Oats has a lot to look forward to.
“Everyone always wants Bama’s coaches ”
No they don’t.
Ok ma’am.
Kiffin – average HC.
Sark – below average HC.
Jimbo – below average HC (one great year with a ra pist QB)
Dooley – garbage.
Jeremy Pruitt- garbage
Jim McElwain – garbage
Billy Napier – below average
Will Muschamp – garbage
Kirby is the only former assistant to go on to do great things.
Who else is there?
Did you really just comment refuting that no one wants Bama’s coaches and then proceed to list 9 coaches that other teams have wanted?

Look stalker lady, I know you’re not smart, but even the biggest idiot can understand the English language.
Then I understand why you’re having such a hard time.
Oh sure…. The powerhouse basketball program that is bammer always has to fight to keep their hoops coaches…
LOL
He’s making a joke because teams are always coming after Bama’s football coaches and now rumors start about big name teams wanting our bball coach too. Be smarter.
“He’s making a joke because teams are always coming after Bama’s football coaches”
LOL
Rick Barnes back to Texas.
Please someone take Golding and Obrien
Everyone always wants Bama coaches and assistants. Texas needs to look at Musselman
Didn’t mean to repeat. My apologies.
Does Texas really want the humiliation of twice being rejected by Alabama coaches to stay at Alabama?
Alabama may have lots of money, but Texas will always have more… oh, and Saban WAS going to Texas at the end of 2013 – Mack Brown threw the monkey-wrench in to keep it from happening – his ego was just too big.
Mrs Terry will have none of that foolish leaving paradise.
Keep living in fantasy land. Help one not to think about being rejected.
If you care about facts…FB was #5. Likely 3 or 4 in the final poll. BB is #7.
Yes, but a few weeks ago Tide Hoops was #4 which was the first time ever during the Saban era that the bball team was ranked higher than the football team. Additionally, Tide hoops is likely to be ranked #4 or #5 this coming Monday.
LOL you think basketball rankings matter.
I was just clarifying that what Jimmy Dykes said was in fact accurate.
“I was just clarifying that what Jimmy Dykes said was in fact accurate.”
LOL ok.
Jay Wright and Billy Donovan have been mentioned the most along with Rodney Terry and Jamie Dixon. It’s early, but so far Jimmy Dykes is the only one who has brought up Oats. I don’t see that many coaches turning it down for TX to dial in on Oats.
Don’t look now, but the interim guy seems to be doing alright for himself. And Jimmy Dykes also said that Texas isn’t the job that will have elite coaches dropping everything and heading to Austin. I agree with that, in any sport.
Next to Tennessee
Why would he go to Texas? Bama BB is the top team in the SEC and
Texas Basketball is great until the Tournament where they vanish.
Plus for the next two years Texas is stuck in a conference which is stronger in BB than the SEC and has added UH.
Bama Coach will be Coach of the Year.
I want Calipari to go to Texas and Oats to come to Lexington. Sounds like a good deal. After all, everyone knows Bama is a football school
I’m Not worried about Oats to Texas… if Cal were to go to Texas I think Oats would be #1 on Kentucky’s list, which is scary.
