Micah Mazzccua, talented OL formerly in Big 12, announces SEC transfer destination
Micah Mazzccua, a standout offensive guard for Baylor before entering the transfer portal, is headed to the SEC.
Mazzccua was a 3-star recruit out of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore and signed with the Bears, redshirting in 2020. In 2021, he played 9 times. In 2022, he emerged as a key member of the Bears’ offensive line, grading out as the 9th-best run-blocking guard according to PFF.
As you can see below, Mazzccua will head to Florida. He announced the news on his Twitter account on Tuesday evening:

Mazzccua chose the Gators over Auburn and Nebraska. Matt Rhule, the head coach at Nebraska, recruited Mazzccua to Baylor, and he committed shortly after Rhule’s departure for the NFL’s Carolina Panthers.
The offensive line was a major area of need for Billy Napier and the Gators. A pair of offensive linemen, Ethan White and Michael Tarquin, were among the players that entered the transfer portal, so Mazzccua represents a significant addition for the staff.
This is a good one and he’s ready to go.
Agree. This was a very needed pick-up.
Solid score for the Gators. Really needed this one to come through in order to keep the starting OL playing at last year’s level. Backups are still going to be very young.
It would be nice to pick up an experienced OT before summer practices begin in August. Not sure there are any left in the portal now that are worth going after.
Emilio, by reason of the fact that I speak British and have inside contacts at SDS, I’ve discovered that you’re now on the new “Double Secret Awaiting Moderation Program”. Watch your arse, son.
LOL! What did I say to anger the uptight gods of moderation this time?
I didn’t refer to the remaining OTs in the TP as t r a s h.
I recently learned from my contacts that the moderation algorithm on SDS was contracted out to a firm in Bosnia. Therefore, cunning linguist that I am, I found that your reference to this being a “solid score” translates in Serbo-Croation to “I voted for t-r-u-m-p”. Alarmed, I thought it necessary to warn my old pal that he ought not broadcast his unapproved voting record on this site.
I have it on good authority that Leeland speaks fluent Serbo-Croation, so feel free to verify it through him by email.
I’ll see myself out now, and you can thank me later.
I believe Campbell from Miami is still available and considering transferring to us
No, he committed on Monday to the Knoxville Orange Creamcicles.
Well you gain some and lose some
Fantastic.
That’s more like it! Great get over stiff competition. This guy will help a ton!
Agreed, this is a great win for the Gators! #2 guard in rankings after Torrence, I’m sure that helped his decision.
This is awful. I guess Billy thinks he’s a recruiting genius now. This kid won’t know the playbook by fall because the coaches don’t know the playbook either. Just kidding boys, i wanted to see what it felt like to write a negative nelly post like my best buddy “ugagatorlivingunderthesealikeaspinelessjellyfishdawglover”
Man, you had me going for a minute! Has tailwhip lost his freakin’ mind? Is he drunk? On drugs? Bad case of hemorrhoids? He sounds like Lady Lakelife! Did Lakelife do a Vulcan mind meld or sumpin?
Then you pulled the old switcher-roo. Well played, buddy, well played.
“ugagatorlivingunderthesealikeaspinelessjellyfishdawglover”
Priceless
Perfect replacement for Torrence.
Now let’s get Rashada enrolled so he can block for him.
Don’t forget that doc is also going to block for Mertz/Miller
True, but if we fool around and lose Rashada, that will be similar to what happened with old ButterTooth and Will Grier, it will sink any chance Napier has.
You know Phil I think that is apples and oranges.
Grier was established and playing at a 6 – 0 clip when he got suspended. There was no reason not to assure him the QB1 position when he came back given his excellent play and the lack of options behind him at the time. I think macshark F up big time.
Rashada is a high school kid, and although highly touted and hyped he hasn’t done or shown squat. If he decides to split we can and will survive with the guys we have until Lagway comes along
True, but if it is an NIL issue, how does that effect Lagaway and others coming to UF? Not a good look.
That won’t be a good situation for UF recruiting, since they won’t be able to discuss what went down publicly.
That said, if Rashada is a pure mercenary, it may be for the best to part ways with him now and make no investment in him to lose later.
Lagway is an even better prospect and he’s already fully committed for the 2024 class. So, it will mean the Gators would need two seasons out of Miller and/or Mertz, which is not a total disaster if the rest of the team comes together around them.
Agree not a good look but not the end of the world either. Maybe an isolated issue since we are still landing in demand TP players like Mazzccua.
Besides Lagway seems to really want to be a Gator and not the mercenary type
Jamie Newman called, should I put him thru, palley? Funny how that worked out for Georgia and Stetson, isn’t it…
True! Huge difference in approach between Rashada and Lagway. Rashada has been all about his NIL deal from his detour through Coral Gables back in the summer.
Lagway has been all about the Gators landing a top recruiting class in 2024 from the jump. In fact, assisting with recruiting was the reason Lagway gave for committing so early. He’s now planning to be back in Hogtown with a bunch of other juniors at the end of this month, while Rashada is MIA.
Also a different situation Humper but yeah in the end it all works out.
I did enjoy the Jamie Newman ordeal. Love me some Jamie Newman
I bet you did…Newman for Heisman shall live in infamy…lol
Phil, Rashada probably wouldn’t start in 2023. And Lagway could come in and take the job in 2024 because his body is more college-ready.
Yes Phil, that’s because that is what freshmen QB do all the time, they come in and start right away and the more experienced QB gets booted to the curb….
You do know this doesn’t support your position on why SB4 did so well, Nash
Hump, Lagway is already 6-2 and 225. Bennett as a freshman was 5-11 and 165 at best, regardless of what his bio says.
And no, my comments on Bennett are not contradictory. My point is that Bennett needed a fifth and sixth year to play as well as players with more elite talent played at younger ages.
No, your point was that QB was the hardest position on the field and the QB benefits far more from experience than any other position on the field.
Lagway will have zero years experience when he gives Rashada the boot.
Was thinking the other day how funny things work out…2019 SB4 was about to go to play for CBN when Kirby swayed him to come back…what were the chances CBN didn’t take SB4 with him to UF this past year had that happened?
While his arm strength and offensive management absolutely improved, Bennett would have failed on another roster, including Alabama. Switch Bennett and Bryce Young and see how things go. He needed the minimal punishment and pressure that Georgia’s offensive line offered. And the defense. And Brock Bowers.
The Y in the road says you go left I go right…if SB4 had transferred from ULL to UF with CBN y’all would have gone 8-5, maybe 9-4, solely based on his football acumen. AR15 was a disaster.
I would probably agree with you on the 8-4 if he had transferred to UF argument.
LOL! I’ll block for ’em, but I won’t play golf with them.
Nice to see that commitment
