Brock Bowers wins John Mackey Award for most outstanding TE in college football
Brock Bowers had a sensational freshman campaign in 2021. He did see a dip in his production in 2022, but that didn’t stop him from being named the John Mackey Award winner during ESPN’s College Football Awards on Thursday evening. Bowers becomes the 1st tight end in Georgia history to win the Mackey Award.
As a sophomore, Bowers has made 52 catches for 762 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also added 3 touchdowns on the ground. His best game of the year was against Florida in the Cocktail Party as he made 5 catches for 154 yards and a touchdown.
Bowers and Georgia now set their sights on the College Football Playoff. The Bulldogs play Ohio State in the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day in a virtual home game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with the winner taking on either TCU or Michigan in the final. Last year, he made 5 grabs for 55 yards and a TD against Michigan and 4 catches for 36 yards and a score against Alabama in the national championship.
