Steve Spurrier reacts to South Carolina's huge win over Tennessee exactly how you'd expect
Steve Spurrier is one of the best when it comes to one-liners against Tennessee. So when Spurrier’s former program, South Carolina, upset the Vols at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday, Spurrier couldn’t resist giving a predictable reaction.
“I almost felt sorry for Tennessee,” Spurrier said, according to Gene Sapakoff of the Charleston Post and Courier.
Just talked to Steve Spurrier about the Gamecocks’ 63-38 rout of the Vols: “Yeah,” he said. ‘I almost felt sorry for Tennessee.”

He also added, “Someone told me Tennessee is probably headed for the Citrus Bowl now. I guess that’s kind of a mean thing to say.”
Some of the more famous Spurrier quotes about Tennessee include “You can’t spell Citrus without U-T.” On Peyton Manning’s goals at the collegiate level, Spurrier once said, “I know why Peyton (Manning) came back for his senior year. He wanted to be a three-time star of the Citrus Bowl.”
Spurrier also took a shot at Tennessee’s coaching turnover.
“Will be the 14th time I’ve coached in Neyland Stadium,” he said. “I’ve coached there more than some of their head coaches.”
