Brock Bowers recalls moment he was told to fill in for Stetson Bennett at press conference
Brock Bowers might as well get used to the media attention.
The sophomore tight end was Stetson Bennett’s favorite target Monday night as he hauled in seven catches for 152 yards and a touchdown in Georgia’s 65-7 win over TCU in the College Football Playoff championship game.
Bennett had decided that when the game was over so were his commitments to the media. This meant someone else had to step in for the quarterback Tuesday.
“For me I was coming off the elevator, I saw Coach Smart and I started walking to go eat some breakfast,” Bowers said. “And I got a call and they said, you’re in the bullpen, come to media. I’m, like, okay, I’m in. Stetson is not going to make it. I guess I gotta go.”
It’s likely the start of a busy media future for Bowers. The sophomore from Napa, California, is in line to be one of the Bulldogs’ captains in 2023 and is a good bet to represent the program at SEC Media Days in the summer. Bowers is also going to enter the season as a darkhorse Heisman candidate and potential future first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Congrats to the National champion bulldogs! From a fellow KY and SEC fan.
Brock Bowers, even as a freshman, showed us he’s someone special. High 5 to him and the Bulldogs for their accomplishments. Everyone else is going to have to totally revamp what they’re doing this spring to get ready for next season.
