Dont’e Thornton, Oregon WR transfer, announces SEC commitment
Dont’e Thornton, an Oregon transfer wide receiver, has found a home in the SEC.
One of the top wide receivers in the transfer portal has committed to Tennessee after he considered Miami, Auburn and Arkansas. He is expected to enroll this month and participate in spring practice, and he’ll have 2 seasons of eligibility remaining, the Knoxville News-Sentinel reported.
This is a big move by the Vols who in 2023 will replace Biletnikoff Award winner Jalin Hyatt and 2021 All-SEC performer Cedric Tillman after both declared for the NFL Draft.
Thornton, a 6-foot-5, 197-pounder from Baltimore, played 25 games with 5 starts over 2 seasons at Oregon.
Thornton had 17 receptions for 366 yards and a touchdown and 2 carries for 6 yards this past season. He had 7 catches for 122 yards through the first 7 games. In the final five games, Thornton had 10 catches for 244 yards and a touchdown.
In 2021, Thornton made 9 catches for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns, with 7 catches and 115 yards coming in the final 4 games.

Sports betting in Tennessee officially launched on November 1, 2020, and many of the largest sportsbooks are live and operating in the volunteer state. Tennessee is only one of a handful of SEC football states with legalized sports betting.
Nice pickup especially since we lost three receivers to the portal.
Big, fast target with experience. Gonna be elite in this offense. Welcome to the #1 offense in America young man. GBO!
Sure. Maybe he develops into something, but he’s been nothing but a fringe contributor so far.
Hyatt, Tillman and McKoy weren’t even Dont’e Thornton status until 1st real year and opportunity under Heupel. Dont’e’s height is going to be extremely hard to defend when your average DB is what, 5’10. Yeah, good luck with that.
5’10”? Just no.
Obviously you don’t know huepels history with recievers. Look at velus jones, Cedric tillman,Jaylin Hyatt, Javonte Payton, and the Missouri Wrs when huepel was there.. this dude is going to put up some numbers in this offense huge pickup
Lsusmc…
Isn’t it interesting that you did not graduate from college…
Little slowwwww…
If Hugh doesn’t hurry up with the QB search, we aren’t going to land any receivers of note. He’s done great work in the portal thus far, but this kid was AU bound until we missed out on the reported QB portal targets. Very nice pickup for TN.
Freeze has an elite ability to produce WR’s from out of nowhere. This won’t be an issue for Auburn imo. We vols are lookin at two offenses next season that look to be scary next season. LSU and Auburn. We hoped we’d get Dont’e after Hyatt and Tillman leaving. But imo, those two schools in the west are going to vastly improved offenses. We were calling for Freeze before Heupel was brought up by AD White.
